The actress confesses that her role in ‘Boss’ is just to add glamour and romance in the movie
Aditi Rao Hydari is reveling in her new found glory of playing the solo leading lady in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Boss’, her much talked about bikini scene and her romantic number ‘Har Kisi Ko’ with Shiv Pandit that is making heads turn. She also spills the beans about her character and shedding of inhibitions the right way in front of the camera.
What about your character in ‘Boss’?
Since ‘Boss’ is an entertainer, my role is the romance or the glamour quotient. I am playing a regular college going girl, who falls in love with this guy (Shiv) and because of their love story, some incidents happen. The plot of the film revolves around these incidents.
On missing the chance of romancing Akshay Kumar onscreen?
I have never really regretted at not getting a role opposite Akshay in this film. Of course who wouldn’t love to be cast opposite a superstar like Akshay Kumar? I see every role of mine in a positive sense. We are here to first act and to make a place in the heart of the audience. For me, I loved working with Shiv. And this was in my destiny. I will work with Akshay too.
‘Boss’ being a good opportunity to
establish yourself…
I see films like ‘Murder’ and ‘Boss’ being good enough for me. I am new in this industry; I don’t know too many people. I cannot just pick up my phone and call directors and ask them to cast me. It’s only by my work and credibility that I can survive here. With ‘Boss’, I get the opportunity of working with big and reputed people.
Did director Sudhir Mishra lose a bet on you?
Sudhir Mishra used to tell me that once girls become stars, they won’t even remember anyone else. He placed a bet and told me that when I will become a known actress, I will not even recognise people. Recently when I met him, I said, so Sudhir Sir, here I am talking to you? So you have lost your bet. Where is my money? And Sudhir was like I am happy to lose this bet.
On your much hyped bikini scene in ‘Boss’?
My only distinction is that something that is cheap and offensive, I will not like to do it. A girl or even boy apart from being actors is also an object of desire. This visual desire can be beautiful or cheap. And I don’t want to do something that is cheap. And who says as an actor I can’t wear a bikini. What is cheap and offensive to me will be the biggest hit. I do come from a family, which is educated and they have given me a lot of freedom to do whatever I wanted. So I would not like to let them down. I am a self respecting individual.
How did you get the offer?
‘Boss’ happened after Ashwin Vardhe saw my bikini pictures in Stardust. They called me after that. I am as comfortable in bikini and salwar. Ultimately it’s all about your attitude. Then Ashwin called me and I got to meet Akshay sir. Akshay said I know you are hardworking and talented. But I want you to have fun in this film. It’s a very different kind of a film and you may have never done such a film till now. And I have not given too many heroines a break. Just Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha. I have seen potential in you and that’s why I am giving you this film. I said thank you and he said thank your parents for your looks and talent.
