‘People need to bring about change’: Amitabh Bachchan

DC | Lipika Varma | 26th Aug 2013
Big B will once again grace the small screen in his most-loved and watched avatar as host of the popular TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Deep into rehearsals and promotions for the show, he shares his views on the new tagline Seekhna bandh toh jeetna bandh!
“Learning is important and it’s a never-ending process,” Amitabh Bachchan begins in his deep baritone voice, perhaps the most recognised in the country. “People across India do learn through this show as a lot of general knowledge is imparted. I think this tag line is important for everyone in our country and I wish more citizens come forward and participate in KBC,” he adds.
A special van will travel across the country to promote KBC and invite more participants. “This van will visit different cities. A KBC scenario will be created for aspiring contestants and around 2-3 will be chosen by a lucky dip to participate besides me. The participants will also have to come up with their own tag lines, and the writer of the best one will be brought to Mumbai,” shares KBC’s iconic host.
Speaking of Mumbai, the city that brought him fame and fortune and which he has been calling home for over four decades, the senior Bachchan is angered and hurt by the recent gang-rape of a young photojournalist. “It is shameful that such a disgraceful thing has happened in Mumbai. A journalist doing her job became the victim of such a heinous crime, that too in broad daylight. Mumbai is known as one of the safest places for women so this is shocking,” he remarks.
And Mumbai’s most famous citizen would like nothing more than to see the perpetrators of such a horrendous crime punished at the earliest. “All the accused should be caught immediately and rigorous action must be taken against them. Our society needs to change. People that are heard need to speak about such acts and bring about change. These shameful activities must end,” he urges.
