Soha Ali Khan on her closest relationships

The actress along with talking abouther latest flick speaks about her loved ones
Soha Ali Khan will be seen in a first of its kind, war comedy flick titled, ‘War Chodo Na Yaar’ being directed by Faraz Haider. The film also features Sharman Joshi, Javed Jaffrey and Mukul Anand. She confesses that she does not mind comparisons with her more successful sibling, Saif Ali Khan and mother, veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore.
Soha clarifies on selecting the role, “The film is about a dramatic take on the cross border war. It is a real take. The film is not based on a fearful war like situation. Infact the film has a lovely message, which will leave impactful impressions on the minds of the audience. We have read in the papers about the pathetic war like situations in the news papers. But this film is being presented in a totally entertaining mode.” And adds, “Actually, the script has been penned very intelligently. When I was approached, I did not want to work with a new director. However, I told the director to give me the script and within my heart I was sure that I will not do his film. But the director Faraz wanted to narrate the story to me. Undoubtedly while he went on narrating the story, I did feel about the freshness as well as the clever takes of the scenes. It is then I accepted to work on the film.”
All praises about her upcoming film, she shares, “The film is not based on my character. The kinds of films I have been associated with have a niche audience. But this is a film which I felt needs to be made. The comic scenes may bring laughter unto you but it has a subtle message from beneath those comic sequences too.” Soha also feels the story of the film will not be offensive at all, and shares, “I am sure after watching the film everyone will understand it better. We have not tried to make any sarcastic remarks at the army personals. I am sure there will not arise any problems what so ever. We have tried to cut jokes on ourselves. This is an anti-war story. The jawans sacrifice a lot for their country and we dare not offend them.”
Soha does not feel lowered or offended in comparing her success to her family members and says, “Mother has given wonderful films. Brother has been a successful actor. Whatever films and work I am doing, my folks are happy about it. By no means do I feel upset if my success ratio is lesser to my brother. After all he is my elder brother and it makes me feel proud for him. My latest film ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ was liked by all.”
Working with Saif Ali Khan’s production she says, “I will like to be associated with my brother only if I feel I can do something for the production house personally. But at the moment, I would prefer acting over getting involved with the production work.”
Soha has always felt that she does not work for money and reiterates, “Yes, I do maintain the same even now. I do need money to run my kitchen. Money does matter to all of us but for me the quality of work means more. I would like to be associated with good films and films which I would like to be a part of. Also working with good people is what I would choose.” Is this attitude because you have inherited a lot from your father? To which, she replies, “Of course, I belong to the royal family. And I would not deny that I do inherit enough for myself. But this does not mean that I would not like to survive on my own. I have been living in Mumbai on my own, I feel happy that I can look after myself.”
Soha may not be the eldest but she is the peace-maker in the family and she shares, “I am more like my father. I am not the eldest but whenever mother wants to pass some message to brother, she will call me up. For instance, if we have any family event, mother will put the onus on me to bring my brother there. She is slightly short tempered and also brother speaks his heart out. So, at times they both end up turning with heated discussion. So usually, I am the one who bring things to normal. But on the whole we all bond very well and are also a closely knit family.”
Adding about her mother doing films she quips, “I don’t think mother will do films. She has grown old and is enjoying her phase.”
About bonding with her sister-in-law, Kareena Kapoor, she shares, “Just recently, we were together in a huge family get together. Kareena and I gel very well. I find her very cool, sorted and an understanding being. Occasionally, whenever we meet we do discuss many things. But we do not discuss anything on films. We have less of time and many things to be talked about on the home front and about the family.”
Highlighting her future films, she shares, “My future films are ‘Airport’, ‘Chaarfutiya Chhokare’ and ‘Joe B Carvalho’,” and adds that she is willing to do anything for good work.
