'Krrish 3': Hrithik Roshan on Bollywood’s ultimate super-hero

Actor says the film is for people across all age groups

Hrithik Roshan is once again becoming a superhero with ‘Krrish-3’ and he is hopeful that the movie will be enjoyed by the kids as well the grownups across all age groups.

Hrithik feels great belonging to the Roshan clan and surely enough, he doesn’t care for royalty on his films from his dad as he quips, “Definitely, I feel royal being his son.”

“All of us work hard. But unless the result is great and the film is liked by one and all, we cannot say our hard work has paid off,” shares the actor about the chances of success of his upcoming venture.

Paying tribute to his dad, he shares, “It is the spirit of just one man –none other than my dad. His vision made everything possible merely for the courage he has shown to make this film. The great response instills immense pleasure in all of us.”

Talking about teamwork, he adds, “Let me tell you nothing could have been possible without everyone’s joint efforts. Our spirits have been kept intact for each character and the technical team has worked hard to gain this great result.”

Talking about his inspiration, he shares, “Anil Kapoor has been an inspiration to me right from my childhood. Everyone would comment saying how much I resemble him.

“I can never address him as uncle because he looks much younger than me. I have adopted his approach He has been my role model. I have been inspired from him and have always analysed things through his eyes.”

Sharing about how the film came about, he says, “It took us almost four years to be able to decide to make the film. I remember dad trying to drop the idea of making this film.

“However, while watching films like ‘Iron Man’, ‘Avengers’ and other films, it became tougher for us. Finally we decided to technically complete the film here in India itself. This makes us feel more proud.”

“My son Rehean kept mum for some time after watching ‘Krrish3’. After hearing from his mouth ‘Krrish’ is the best film, I was very thrilled,” shares the happy father.

Talking about the selection of the villain, he discloses, “‘Krrish’ establishes the superhero but without the super villain a hero will never shine. It was a critical selection as to who could be the villain. One morning when we sat down to decide, we could only relate to one baddy –Vivek Oberoi.”

“It is fortunate that I am living different characters through my dad’s films. Bringing joy and happiness to the kids through my character brings in contentment within me. My dad too had to turn a child in order to bring such lively moments onscreen. I will feel happy if along with kids, people of all ages too will like and be entertained through this film,” says the actor.

Priyanka Chopra springs another surprise

After the music launch, it's a noble endorsement! Here she opens up on her triple happiness...

Priyanka Chopra’s double celebrations have left her nervous and excited. On one hand, there is the immense appreciation for her performances in ‘Barfi’ and on the other there is her international debut – as a singer.
But that’s just part of the story — news is that Priyanka will soon be playing yet another important role, though this time for the cause of the girl child.
Firsts up, the album; ask the former beauty queen and she sounds all excited. “You wouldn’t believe it, but I am a lot nervous. My hands are shaking. And just to pep me up, I was reading reviews of my performance in ‘Barfi’ all through the day, and now that I am all set to release the album, I am feeling confident. Tomorrow I will spend the entire day listening to what you have thought about the song. I am flying day after to L.A. where they will be shooting the official video of the song,” says Priyanka with an exuberance of child.
Interestingly, neither music nor acting was on Priyanka’s mind a few years’ ago.
Going into a sudden flashback, the ‘Fashion’ actress says, “I grew up listening to an eclectic collection of music. While dad was a fan of Mohammed Rafi; mum would play Beetles, Rock and Metallica.  Mom, in fact, was also a huge fan of 50 Cents, and had taken me to the concerts. That’s was my childhood, and its music. I grew up with a lot my dad and mum’s fight over music, and of different kind of music. But even then I never thought I would sing ever.  I never thought I would be an actor someday either.  If I did what I thought I would have been an engineer today.  I have written and co-written all these experiences in life. It’s a mini biography and speaks of my life and my initial experiences. It will have different genres from club track to pop track and ballads.”
And though the album is in English, at heart the desi girl is very much an Indian listener. “I never realized how big it is going to be, and if it works how important will it be for India. It took me a lot of hard work in understanding myself.  I wanted India to be a part of the album hence the music is Indian with a lot of desi instruments used for the music. I want the world to get the taste of our culture. When I shot the video I felt that the world has to experience Bollywood. And let me tell you, I will have a lot of that.  The album is English, which will allow the global audience to enjoy it too. However, the heart is Indian. I would also love to perform live on stage.  It’s just the beginning of a new journey.”
And though she is thoroughly enjoying the new phase in her life, she wouldn’t chose any one thing. “Given a chance, I will always try to sing as well as act. When I can attribute to both singing and acting, why choose any one. I would choose both,” says the actress.
Come October Priyanka will be seen taking another big role. Priyanka says, “I have always believed in the cause of girl child. I feel it is one of the biggest atrocities being committed towards them. Earlier too, I have worked with NGO’s, which take the cause of promoting the welfare of the girl child. I’m doing my bit in order to enhance their progress. Recently, I have donated a few sewing machines, so that they can build on a new skill and be independent. I am also the National Brand Ambassador for UNICEF, and will start working with them soon.”

Make way for ‘Glammas’

DC | Priyanka Praveen | 14th Sep 2013 inpits by lipika varma
When they walk into a room, heads will definitely turn. They’re classy, well-groomed and glamorous. Move over PYTs and make way for the glamorous grandmoms, or, Glammas.
Carole Elizabeth Middleton, mother-in-law of Prince William, recently beat Camilla Bowles Parker to become the most glamorous grandmother in the UK. And back home in India, we have our own contingent of glammas.
Whether it is Sharmila Tagore, Dimple Kapadia or the extremely fit and fabulous Neetu Kapoor, Bollywood has no dearth of glammas.
Sharman Joshi, who plays Rekha’s grandson in Super Nani, thinks his co-star is undoubtedly the sexiest nani in B-town. “I was in awe of her beauty and yes, she looks like a sexy nani. I always complimented her by saying, ‘You look so young and beautiful,’ she would just smile and accept the compliment. I guess activities like a proper diet keeps her fit, healthy and beautiful.
“I also noticed that if it was time for her yoga session, even it was ‘pack up’ on the sets, she would finish her yoga and then leave.”
Neetu Kapoor’s daughter Ridhima, says, “My mum’s fitness regime is her secret. She never misses working out. Also, she is very particular about her diet. I wish I’m half as fit as she is when I grow old, that way I’ll be an inspiration for my daughter as well.”
Hyderabadi too has its fair share of glammas. Minister D.K. Aruna is one such glamma who leaves people in awe. Her daughter Shruthi Reddy says, “My mother has been a vegetarian for a really long time. I think that has helped her stay so fit and fabulous.” She adds, “She follows a strict healthy diet and takes good care of herself. It also helps that she pays such minute details to her wardrobe. She loves her saris and takes extra care of how she dresses up.”
Glamma Brij Sahaney, who owns the Radisson Blu hotel, believes that it’s all about inner peace and happiness. “I meditate. It helps me keep calm and also gives peace,” she explains adding, “I believe if you’re happy and at peace, it automatically shows on your face.” Ask her how her grand-children feel about having a glamorous grandmother, she smiles, “I’m more a friend to them. It also helps to have them around. The way they treat me makes me so happy that I guess it shows.” — Inputs by Lipika Varma

Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam ways

The director of blockbuster ‘Dabbang’ believes in carrying forward his legacy of delivering commercial hits
Director Abhinav Kashyap believes in carrying forward his experiences and formula that worked while directing the blockbuster film, ‘Dabbang’ and apply onto his upcoming Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Besharam’.
“‘Dabbang was a commercial hit. I hope ‘Besharam’ will also be a hit. I have developed an instinct while making ‘Dabbang’ and owing to that I always try to pen down the script which I always feel will work. I discussed the script to many people but they all rejected it reacting — what kind of a script is this? I was thrown out from many offices and many doors were shut on my face,” he says and adds, “Finally, it was Arbaaz Khan who understood my script. But even he had doubts initially and only after he consulted his father Salim Khan who used to write these kinds of subjects for films, did he give a go ahead signal.”
Talking about how rejections are part and parcel of the industry and how one should take it in his stride, he shares, “However, ‘Dabbang’ being rejected by many production houses garnered stupendous success at the box office. Mine was not the only deal that went sour. ‘Son of Sardaar’ producers too ended up selling it to Eros. I have learnt never to take yourself seriously. For me it’s a success that after ‘Dabbang’, every hero grew a moustache and played the role of police in that year.” Adding why ‘Besharam’ too initially faced rejection by producers, he says,“ ‘Besharam’ was rejected by Viacom due to commercial reasons. I had an arrangement with Viacom, which worked until just for a year. When the management changed, the new ones didn’t like the terms and conditions and tried to renegotiate with me. And I didn’t agree to their new terms. In re-negotiation, I would have suffered losses. So, I moved out and got into a deal with Reliance. I am happy to have struck a fair deal with them and they have been very bankable.”
Talking about the title of the film and how it was up for grabs, he shares, “‘Besharam’ title was out there in public domain. It’s just that no one had used it; I thought the title went with my script and when I found that the title was not registered, I said let’s grab it.”
Talking about his choice of lead, he says, “Ranbir was the first actor who came into my mind and even in the process of writing, it was just Ranbir.” Talk about peeing becoming Ranbir’s trademark, he shares, “He did in ‘Barfi!’ it was a hit. He did it in ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Yeh Jawani hai Deewani’. So, peeing has become a mascot. And these are things we do in daily life.”
He shares how he felt intimidated by veteran actor, Rishi Kapoor’s presence on the sets and shares, “When Rishi was there on sets, I used to feel scared. He had this habit of speaking in a high pitch and then he had tantrums as well. But once you get to know him well, you get used to it. Unquestionably then, he is a really sweet and good person.” Sharing more about Rishi’s finicky ways, he adds, “I remember I was not able to meet him. So I went to his place where Ganapati was being celebrated and he was doing the ‘aarti’. Once the ‘aarti’ was done, I touched his feet and then asked him about work and he just threw me out of his house. Later on through SMS he informed me that you should never come to my home at such pious occasions and talk work.”
He shares how the whole idea of having the whole Kapoor clan in the film came about and says, “I pondered over a bit over my character who was to be a male assistant to Rishi. I decided to change it to a female assistant and the idea of bringing all three family members cropped up into my mind. It is thus Neetu was signed.”
Having worked with the father son duo, he feels that Ranbir has inherited a lot of professionalism from his dad and says, “ I feel Ranbir inherits most traits as a person from his mother but his passion for his work comes from his father. He is not a casanova. It’s unlucky that when he started dating Deepika, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ got released and then he broke up with her. So people called him a flirt.” And adds, “Yes, Ranbir is already a superstar. Not that Khan’s are down but just that age is not on their side. So, Ranbir with his body of work is a superstar. He should rule the celluloid for the next 15 -20 years.”
Sharing his reasons on his choice of heroine, he shares, “Pallavi came through a series of auditions and she was finally approved by Viacom, myself and Ranbir. I am not dating her. It is just media who creates these stories. I am a happily married man with two daughters.”
If given a chance, the director would love to once again work with Salman Khan and shares,”I will work with Salman if I have a script. I have never met or interacted with him after ‘Dabbang’. During that time, Salman worked with me because he was not a huge star as he is now. And even then it was Arbaaz who brought him into my film.” And adds, “I worked with him on a professional level. And once that was over, I didn’t meet him. I have never had any personal relationship with him. I was never his friend. But that doesn’t mean there is any rivalry between the two. If I have a script for him, I will surely approach him.”

Shabana Azmi’s support to the young actors

The veteran actress who will be seen in television show ‘24’ talks about her support of the young actors
Shabana Azmi will be seen with Anil Kapoor in an adaption of international show ‘24’. And the veteran actress accepted to do this show at the behest of Sunita Kapoor, Anil’s wife with whom she shares a close bond.
Shabana believes in encouraging young actors and shares, “I am very pally with the youngsters. I have done a couple of films with Dia Mirza, Konkona Sen, Sandhya Mridul and I have shared a very good relationship with them ever since we worked together.” And adds, “They respect us so much and are in awe with their seniors. I always try to make them comfortable because if any scene gets into a soup, then we all are the sufferers. I never like to irritate anyone. Undoubtedly, I am very supportive to all the newbie.”
Shedding light on the enthusiasm of a child that she carries in her heart, she shares, “The youth finds me behaving like a kid. As I love to rehearse my scenes over and over again until I get it perfectly. Why do we do ‘riyaz’ for music and so I will never like to create any stumbling position for my co actors.”
Giving away a secret about Konkona Sen Sharma, Sahabana relives a past moment and says, “I remember while I was doing a film titled ‘Picnic’ with Konkona , she was just 8 or 9 years old and she played my daughter. I remember Aparna Sen would say that Konkona would become a writer like her father. At that time I had told her that she would be an actor. Today I feel proud of my prediction. I had kept the name Koko for her then.”

glam quotient-oriented role

The actress confesses that her role in ‘Boss’ is just to add glamour and romance in the movie
Aditi Rao Hydari is reveling in her new found glory of playing the solo leading lady in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Boss’, her much talked about bikini scene and her romantic number ‘Har Kisi Ko’ with Shiv Pandit that is making heads turn. She also spills the beans about her character and shedding of inhibitions the right way in front of the camera.
What about your character in ‘Boss’?
Since ‘Boss’ is an entertainer, my role is the romance or the glamour quotient. I am playing a regular college going girl, who falls in love with this guy (Shiv) and because of their love story, some incidents happen. The plot of the film revolves around these incidents.
On missing the chance of romancing Akshay Kumar onscreen?
I have never really regretted at not getting a role opposite Akshay in this film. Of course who wouldn’t love to be cast opposite a superstar like Akshay Kumar? I see every role of mine in a positive sense. We are here to first act and to make a place in the heart of the audience. For me, I loved working with Shiv. And this was in my destiny. I will work with Akshay too.
‘Boss’ being a good opportunity to
establish yourself…
I see films like ‘Murder’ and ‘Boss’ being good enough for me. I am new in this industry; I don’t know too many people. I cannot just pick up my phone and call directors and ask them to cast me. It’s only by my work and credibility that I can survive here. With ‘Boss’, I get the opportunity of working with big and reputed people.
Did director Sudhir Mishra lose a bet on you?
Sudhir Mishra used to tell me that once girls become stars, they won’t even remember anyone else. He placed a bet and told me that when I will become a known actress, I will not even recognise people. Recently when I met him, I said, so Sudhir Sir, here I am talking to you? So you have lost your bet. Where is my money? And Sudhir was like I am happy to lose this bet.
On your much hyped bikini scene in ‘Boss’?
My only distinction is that something that is cheap and offensive, I will not like to do it. A girl or even boy apart from being actors is also an object of desire. This visual desire can be beautiful or cheap. And I don’t want to do something that is cheap. And who says as an actor I can’t wear a bikini. What is cheap and offensive to me will be the biggest hit. I do come from a family, which is educated and they have given me a lot of freedom to do whatever I wanted. So I would not like to let them down. I am a self respecting individual.
How did you get the offer?
‘Boss’ happened after Ashwin Vardhe saw my bikini pictures in Stardust. They called me after that. I am as comfortable in bikini and salwar. Ultimately it’s all about your attitude. Then Ashwin called me and I got to meet Akshay sir. Akshay said I know you are hardworking and talented. But I want you to have fun in this film. It’s a very different kind of a film and you may have never done such a film till now. And I have not given too many heroines a break. Just Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha. I have seen potential in you and that’s why I am giving you this film. I said thank you and he said thank your parents for your looks and talent.

Ali Zafar looking for change

The versatile singer-cum-actor wants to play some serious roles after having been the quintessential romantic hero onscreen
The exhibition of various Indian films in Pakistan has helped its market grow tremendously. — ALI ZAFAR
Ali Zafar has indisputably built a name for himself not just as a singer but also as a Bollywood star with movies like ‘Tere Bin Laden’, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, ‘Chashme Baddoor’. And currently, he is busy working on ‘Aman Ki Asha’ and action-thriller ‘Kill Dill’ — along with a fourth studio album.
Confessing about being tired of playing the quintessential romantic hero, he says, “I am tired of doing romantic roles and so I am doing “Kill Dill’, which is an action movie. I like to perform serious kind of roles as it comes naturally to as opposed to comedy.”
And adds, “‘Aman Ki Asha’ is my next film. It’s a cross border love story. While the guy is from Pakistan and the girl is from India. We have just focused on the romance. There is no politics involved. It’s the remake of a Spanish movie. However, I am looking forward to perform an aged role, I find an old man’s role challenging which pushes me out of my comfort zone.”
He also shares how he keeps his Pakistani roots in mind while composing his music and says, “I am still contributing to music because I started my career as a singer. Even as an actor, I am still in touch with my Pakistani roots and also while signing movies here, I take care to see that my countrymen’s sentiments are not hurt.” And about bridging the gap between the two neighbouring countries, he adds, “I feel irrespective of the political situation of both the neighboring countries — India and Pakistan, artists and sportsmen should be allowed to participate. This will however, bridge the gap that exists.”
Shedding light on the nascent Pakistani film industry, he shares, “The film market in Pakistan is picking up as compared to earlier days. In Lahore, there is Cinemax and other big multiplexes are coming up as well. So, movie business is undergoing a big flux here too. The exhibition of various Indian films in Pakistan has helped its market grow tremendously. ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’, ‘Josh’ and all other flicks are making huge returns.” All praises for Hindi films, he adds, “Every Hindi film that does well here, does well there too. And stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor are very famous there. Pakistani film industry has now evolved into a commercially viable industry.”
About working with the right people in Bollywood he says, “I can only work with those who I like, who are humble. I can’t work with arrogant or snooty people.” Talking about his fitness mantra, he adds, “I am working with Sonu Nigam’s fitness trainer who is helping me work out well. I have been training hard, and eat bread, roti and rice and non-vegetarian food, which include meat for protein. I don’t eat sweets and don’t drink tea or coffee. I gym everyday and lift weights. I spend two hours in the gym.”
Ali considers himself lucky to have many friends here in Bollywood, and shares, “I have Abhishek Sharma, Ali Abbas and Bosco Caesar who are my good friends. Then there is Katrina Kaif too with whom I share a good rapport and she guides me well while signing any projects.”
Sharing the best compliment he has received till date, Ali shares, “The best compliment I have received till date was from Yash Chopra who said that I had played my role well, with enough maturity in my the film ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’.
Speaking about his latest hairstyle, he says, “People are liking it. It has a bit of Hollywood style to it. Though my mother and wife would always insist and say shave it off and cut it. But most of my friends and people who meet me for the first time with this hair style, love it.” Looks like change is the name of the game for this versatile actor and singer.

Akshay terms Danny his lucky mascot
In the meantime, Akshay Kumar considers Danny Denzongpa who plays his mentor in ‘Boss’ as his lucky mascot and reveals his reasons that dates back to the start of his entry into film production.
“I remember when for the first time I wanted to buy an office as I had to begin my production house. I decided to buy a small office from Danny who wanted to dispose it off. And since then there has been no looking back for me. Therefore, I consider Danny to be very lucky for me. I have learnt a lot from this veteran actor. He is one actor who opts for few films but always has been a successful actor,” shares Akshay.

Akshay Kumar seems to be in awe of Danny Denzongpa who plays his mentor in the upcoming film 'Boss'. Akki considers Danny his lucky mascot.
“I remember when I wanted to buy my first office as I was launching my production house, I settled on a small office that Danny wanted to dispose off. And since then, there has been no looking back for me. I consider Danny to be very lucky for me. I have learnt a lot from him. He may have opted for fewer films, but he’s always been a successful actor,” Akshay said.

With 'Boss', Akki is also pinning his hopes on director Anthony D’souza for the second time. “I know his first film 'Blue' did not do well, but I consider that he has a huge amount of potential, and am working with him a second time. He had the strength to make a Blue which no other director would have even thought of. Just because the film did not do well at the box office does not mean he is not a fine director. Many a times, films which we feel are good enough may bomb at the box office. This does not mean we need not go ahead with doing our jobs,” Akki said.

Memories from a royal past

03SOHAAA.jpg
Amma did not want to rebel. She was passionate about her ideas, but she would always give in to Abba’s wishes.” With her distinctive lineage — her father, the late Mansoor Ali Khan was the Nawab of Pataudi and an exemplary cricketer while mother Sharmila Tagore was among the most popular actresses on the silver screen during her heyday — anything that Soha Ali Khan says about her parents is bound to spark interest.
She gives us a sepia-tinged peek into her royal upbringing, when she talks about horse-riding and family guns and the Pataudi haveli in Bhopal — and contrasts it with her everyday life in a two-bedroom flat in Mumbai. “Now, even if I visit my folks at our Jaipur home, I have to behave in a certain way. I have to say khamhagani when I greet anyone. We still carry the culture that we imbibed during our childhood in our hearts,” Soha says.
The deep respect she had for her parents’ wishes meant that she didn’t immediately venture into films. “I took up a bank job just because dad did not want me to work in films,” Soha says. “But finally, I did convince him to let me pursue a career in Bollywood. I think all parents do come around in the end, because they want their children to be happy,” she adds.
And although the box office run of her films has been chequered at best, the petite actress says she has no regrets whatsoever. “I was solely responsible for choosing the films I worked on — whether or not they did well at the box office. They are my own mistakes, my own decisions. I do not dwell on those bad films, I look forward to a better future,” Soha says.
And does that future include a film with big brother Saif Ali Khan? “I would love to work with bhai,” Soha admits, adding, “If the project is not a marketing gimmick, and the role suits us, then why not?”
Displaying a flash of humour, Soha beats us to talking about the possibility of the Pataudi parivaar getting together for a project: “Now Kareena is part of the family too, so if any director writes a good script for us, then surely, we’ll all work together. Hum saath saath hain!”
Soha says in her filmi career, she does pay heed to mom Sharmila’s advice. “Amma always told me to work in accordance with the director’s wishes,” she says. “Sometimes she gives me style advice. Working with her on Life Goes On… was a great learning experience. She always says, ‘This is my last film.’ So I thought why not work with her if this was indeed her last film!”
