Pallavi Kulkarni on work-n-play. By Lipika Varma | ||
Q: You are returning to TV after almost two and a half years! Any specific reason?
Actually, I was fed up of working in TV continuously. It's like working round the clock. I desperately needed to take a break and chill out.
Q:You mean you were sitting at home doing nothing!
Well, working people like us cannot rest in peace for a long time. So it goes without saying that I needed to do something to keep myself busy while I awaited a good offer to come my way. During this period, I did a lot of advertisements and commercials. Obviously, I was in no hurry to pick up anything and everything. So I waited for the right time and the right opportunity. And then, I got lucky with Vaidehi.
Q:Highlight your role in Vaidehi.
In the show, I play the lead role opposite actor Sachin Sharma. He belongs to a rich family while I am from a middleclass background. Above all, I am a very simple girl who has inculcated the ethical values and cultures of the society. When I get this rich and good-looking man, it's like a dream come true for me. It makes me feel on top of the world. But after living with his family for some time, I come to know of certain mysterious things which are taking place in the family. This turns out to be quite shocking and unexpected.
Q:And what are those mysteries?
It's too early to unfold the story. One thing I would like to make clear is the fact that the story is drawn from worldly affairs and day-to-day life.
Q:Does this mean that the serial will have the regular TV dose of extra-marital affairs and divorces, etc?
Hey, I can't reveal so much. But be sure that neither do I get separated nor do I go in for an extramarital affair. The rest you watch and enjoy.
Q:What made you accept this character? Especially after waiting for a good two and a half years in search of a worthy role!
As soon as I heard the story, I knew it was my perfect dream role. Ever since producer Aroona Irani narrated the character, I fell in love with it. So, there was no reason for me to refuse.
Q:How was your experience working with Aroona Irani?
Aroona was very cooperative. The exuberant experiences that she shared with me were unforgettable. She always helped me enhance my performance by giving mindblowing suggestions. Her tips on looking beautiful onscreen actually helped me showcase myself properly. This is something I will always owe to her.
Q:Aroona Irani has been a director herself. How much was her interference in the director's work?
She would give suggestions at times for the betterment of the project, but one can never call it interference. Director Pawan Sahu was given a free hand which helped not only the artistes, but also led to the authentic depiction of the story line. To make things better, Aroona personally came for the dubbing and helped us put in so much of effort that we were able to give our 100 per cent.
Q:What about your coactors? Was there any professional rivalry which has become so much a part of glamour industry today?
See, I am a person who likes to be with myself. The reason being the fact that, when actors work for long hours together, there's bound to be too much of chit-chatting which ultimately leads to problems. Moreover, I do not have many professional friends. I believe in keeping a distance. My friends are all from outside the industry. So, I didn't have to face any such problem.
Q:Any silver screen plans?
Silver screen is totally a different medium. I don't think I am open to sex, exposure and bold scenes. And also for getting roles in films, one has to socialise a lot which does not befit my kind of a girl. If at all, I get a Swades kind of role, which fits my persona, I would go for it.
Q:Any dream roles?
I would like to do a Sridevi kind of role in Sadma and something like that of Rani Mukherjee in Black
