Ajay Devgn's case against YRF takes a hit and now SRK responds to an argument that threatens to split Bollywood loyalties.
“Industry knows I am fighting for my rights” - AJAY DEVGN
“You should have simply booked dates early” - SHAH RUKH KHAN
AJAY DEVGN
Ajay Devgn is clear about his stance and feels that Yash Raj Films is simply throwing its weight. “My fight is about what is right and wrong. The industry is happy as they feel that I am fighting for my rights.
If the verdict was in my favour they would have thanked me. A positive decision will help the industry in the long run.” About a section of the industry requesting him to push back the release date, Ajay says, “They tried telling me through the media that since Yashji expired, which is very sad, I should push back the date. Many people tried to pressurise me.
I have spent `80 crore to `90 crore and corporates are involved and shareholders, too, are at stake. I know Yashji is a legend. If I release my film I will become a villain, if I don’t I will be at a loss.” “They will have to ask Aamir Khan to push back the release of ‘Talaash’, Akshay Kumar’s film, too, and Salman Khan’s film, which is releasing in January. If all of them are ready, I will go ahead and postpone.”
SHAH RUKH KHAN
SRK, too, is very definite about his views. “Are you going to tell us when we have to release our film? Are you trying to say that if your film does not do well, it’s because of some the other film?” “If you have lesser number of theatres then you should have booked them early. Just because your business house has not done it and the other one has, why are you holding it against us?” He adds, “It’s a liberated market. There is no question of having a monopoly.
It is a question of demand and supply. I, too, am a producer in my own capacity. I have talked with distributors and exhibitors when I release my film and after I finish talking to an exhibitor or a distributor may reject my product saying, ‘Shah Rukh… hum yeh film nahi lena chahte’. Can I force them to buy? Yes! Yashji hote toh bolte unki film bhi chalni chahiye... I feel that all the films should do well at the box office. But on the whole my film will be mine.”
We also asked Reema Kagti, director of Aamir Khan's ‘Talaash’, her views on the whole issue, and she says, “I do not know the details of the issue... But I feel they are right in their own ways. But as Shah Rukh is talking about single theatres, it is definitely a demand and supply issue.”
