Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth
Kamal Haasan and RajinikanthThe actor filmmaker has always been known for his dancing prowess, especially classical, and is proud to have been trained by the great kathak exponent pandit Birju Maharaj for a dance sequence.
Ahead of the much hyped release of his film ‘Vishwaroopam’ on DTH prior to theatres, superstar Kamal Hassan is quite relaxed. For him it makes good business sense. “I am releasing the film on DTH because it's another monetising platform.
We will not be at a loss; and now Internet too is a great platform,” he says.
Kamal, who has cast filmmaker Shekhar Kapur in the film, says, “Both Shekhar and I have always talked about working together. After 20 years I got him to act in my film. Now I am waiting for him to cast me.”
The actor-filmmaker has always been known for his dancing prowess, especially classical, and is proud to have been trained by the great kathak exponent pandit Birju Maharaj for a dance sequence in the film. “I feel privileged to have been taught by Birju Maharaj.”
On a different note, Kamal unhesitatingly agrees that super star Rajnikanth and he are professional rivals. “We are competitors and I don't deny that. We come from the same institute of K. Balachander. He gets concerned when my film is released on DTH and asks me why I am doing it. I get alarmed when he is admitted in hospital. I enquire about his well-being when he comes out and he says he is fine. When it comes to my solo releases I love to see my films doing well. But this does not mean we are not friends.”
“I am keen to work in Hindi films but I need to be approached by directors from the Hindi film fraternity,” he says about his future Bollywood plans.
Clarifying rumours of Sonakshi Sinha and later Deepika Padukone being cast in ‘Vishwaroopam’, he says, “Sonakshi was considered but not Deepika. Finally we decided to take newcomers as stars could not accommodate so many dates for the schedule.”
His daughter Shruti Hassan is a star by her own right now. About directing her, Kamal says, “We have been planning to work together for 10 years. She is already a star in South and when she becomes a hit in Bollywood I will take things forward.”
As a parting shot we ask him whether he would work in the super hit Bollywood film ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’ if it was remade and he says, “I don’t want to play the father now.”
