It’s a bollywood trend now a day’s not only the stars but producer directors to like to experience their television stint. Having reached the Oscars with his film “Lagan” Ashutosh Gowarikar is also all set to try his hand with a television serial titled “Everest.” Ashutosh touches a very emotional subject,” Everest” which everyone likes to reach onto….But here “A daughter wanna prove her mettle worthy when compared to son!!
In a brief one on one he chats with Lipika Varma
Audience is hoping to see you direct a film, but you are coming up with a serial comment…
In fact, I was working on two projects, right from the year 2011-” Mohenjo-Daro” and Everest”. Research work pertaining to “Everest took almost one and a half years. However, I am ready with Mohenjo-Daro script also. But sometimes due to date problems we have to keep are projects on a hold. Since Hrithik has been busy with his film” Bang Bang so we decided to go ahead with our TV project “Everest.”
Were you keen on making Everest only as a television serial?
It was not so. Initially; I was keen on making a film titled Everest. I was interested in directing an drama adventure film. I always pondered over, as to who are those guys who love to climb the mountains. What exactly do they have in their mind and heart? This is a typical sport and an ambition which you need to fulfil spending from your own pockets.
Is “Everest” completely a tale connected to Sport and adventure?
This is a story of a girl who likes to full fill the dream of her father. As father always feels, if he had given a birth to a son all his dreams would be fulfilled through his pains taking efforts. Undeniably, the daughter decides to defy this belief of her father and proves that she is no less than a son. Therefore she takes up the challenge of fulfilling her father’s dream. There are many other stories too which will be depicted in this show.
Did you ever try mountaineering?
I had no die hard passion trying trekking. However, during my school days I did enjoy trekking at certain occasions and enjoyed it. It is at that point of time I was interested to know as to what exactly wee the emotions of people who had an ambition to reach the Everest. Why did they want to experiment? What did they achieve in doing so? However, this is a personal feeling of every individual who at some point of time wish to achieve their motto. We can term successfully being able to capture your ambition as “Everest.” In spite of facing so many problems we do not give in while getting our aim. So I can say making this possible was my “Everest….peak of fulfilling our wishes.
Update about the locations and the actors in Everest?
While choosing the cameraman and director one thing was clear in my mind, whoso ever will be the part of this show, He/she has to be physically fit. As everyone will have to work on a height with almost be -6 degrees- temperature. I had updated everyone about this fact. The locations are-Uttrakhandh, Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Khatmandu and Leh where we have completed our shootings. We have also shot partly in Mumbai locales, shoot is yet in continuation.
Your films are always lengthy? How lengthy will this serial be?
This serial will definitely have 100/200 episodes. We have not formatted it yet. We have left this decision on the channel. We have decided on the story line while they will control the programming section. Talking about long movies he adds,” Times have changed. Now I have decided not to direct lengthy film. Mohenjo Daro is not going to be any lengthy.
So, you are changing your style of writing and making?
It is not so. If you choose a lengthy drama with too many characters in it. Obviously the film turns out to be lengthy. For instance,” Lagaan” and Swades Jodha Akbar had to be lengthy. But f you make a comedy or romantic film, you cannot pitch the film for more than two or a half hours. Merely because you do not have a lot of content on it.Mohenjo Daro is a love story Starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde.
