Hindi film Liar's Dice, a road drama about a tribal woman's journey to find her missing husband, has been selected as India's official entry to the g Academy Awards in the best foreign film festival. Directed by Geetu Mohandas and starring Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles,”Liar’s Dice.” This film has beaten almost 29 films in this category to represent India at Oscars.
The excited team talks to share their happiness with us.
Geetanjali Thapa-it is long route ahead to reach the final line. Lagan was at the final nomination …I hope it is in the final five. I am delighted about the fact that at least people have thought of enlisting us in the Oscars. Of coz I never expected premiers of our film Liar Dice to happen in Sundance, it was just unexpected thing for all of us. We were in fact fighting it hard to make the film in the first place. Director Geetu Mohan had to struggle hard to get the funding in place. After we decided finally I started working on my character. I learned so many things from the woman living in Chitkul. This helped me work rightly towards my character who sets on a journey to look for her husband…and meets Nawaz.I am single, not married but in the film I have a kid and acting like a mother of the kid I got things right with the sincere efforts of my director Geeetu. I am happy that the effort of the team has been fruitful. I am hoping the film gets into the first five listings .Lagan was a huge film and it had been nominated in a better position .I have won Angeles Films festival award for ID directed by Kamal K. M.and doing a feature film ,” Monsoon Shoot Out being directed by Amit Kumar. It was sheer hard work of all of us that we have at least come to Oscars.”
Directed Geetu Mohan said,” I am indeed very happy and excited about my film ,” Liar’s Dice which has been nominated in the Oscars. Yes1 This is indeed a proud moment for me as well all the Indians too. While I chose the subject of directing a film on migrants” these migrants come from all over places and settle down in the Metro cities. Now, the tragedy with them is even though we are talking about globalization, these migrants have to even struggle hard for their existence. The tragedy is that the poor is turning poorer and has less likely hood of getting a proper work.. This is the journey of a woman, she is a laborer who sets in search of her husband .and meets Nawazuddin on her way…Yes! They do fall for each other but it is a mature love story.”
Coming back to her film being selected in the Oscars she adds,” When I set out to direct this film all I was concentrating was on getting proper finances , getting the right cast in place and also making the script happening. .However, we never expected to be on the Oscars list, it feels great also National Awards and other awards are validation to our hard work. I AM NOT KEEPING ANY FINGERS CROSSED AS SUCH TO BE ABLE TO GET THE Oscars, but yes we have worked e sincerely. Rest is destiny.”
Nawzuddin-," Making such films will encourage all other film makers to be able to script great films and showcase it on the celluloid. I play an Army personal in the film. This is an emotional take of a woman who goes in search of her husband. How she meets me and then begins the romantic side of the tale. The romance is shown in a mature manner, this is indeed heart touching. The silent love between the two strangers who join each other in their journey has been depicted exuberantly. I never believe in working in films without good stories and I always see that my character should be worthwhile. I am excited and happy about Liar Dice going to Oscars I am presently in Allay will surely be there for the Premiere to be held in Sundance. The film has been shown in Maami festival and horded a lot of appreciations even there.”
