In an exclusive conversation Kareena answers a volley of questions….  With Lipika Varma

Working in commercial films, promotional strategies, about moms films…dad…Soha and Kunal and Saif.Her love for crime thriller books/films… and globe-trotting with Saif-

 What to you have to say about the rigorous promotional strategies?

Kareena Kapoor feels actors have almost turned as “Salesmen now days. Owing to the rigorous promotional strategies Kareena says,” Well! While we have greet and meet time in the “Malls”, I like it. Merely, because we literally know our fans and for them also it is a sight to witness all of us. However, I do not like to visit the “Reality Shows.” I feel people love to watch Kapil more than all we actors. My mom also loves to watch him. And she watches “Jhalak “keenly for the performers. My mom says,” You guys go there and distract our attention. The performers on these reality shows however, are great.”

I like talking to people .Sitting in a group it is really interesting, it is nice that we get to talk about our film which is to release. Informing about our roles and answering the questions of the media feels nice, beyond that I feel is not so great. I believe if the first promo sets into the minds of the people and if they like the promos at the very sight they would love to watch the film. Our audiences will decide whether they would like to watch the film or not. So many films which have been promoted right centre and left have not got that openings at all. It does not matter even if day night we may promote a film, if after watching the promos the audiences feel like watching the movie then its fine. But if they decide not to watch a particular movie they will never go for it.

What do you prefer promotions in the “Malls” or Reality shows?

I like to promote in the malls, we get to see, meet and greet our fans. Promotions on the reality show – I just cannot believe as to why we have to go and dance over there. Our visit to the show is like deflecting from that craze of that particular show. The audiences want to watch how the performers dance or sing. Why deflect the audiences from that. My mom watches all these reality shows. She keeps telling me-why so many actors go on comedy show. I want to watch Kapil …in Jhalak show I want to watch participants performing more than you actors going there and doing anything. However, having been in the industry for so many years I cannot say “No “to the promotional activities, we have to do it.

How was your experience working with Ajay and Rohit-

Ajay is a fantastic actor He is an actor to reckon with his films “Bhagat Singh,Zakhm and more, he has proved himself in every film of his .Ajay and I complement each other on the screen. We have done a couple of movies together from Omkara,Golmaal and now Shingahm Returns.But my memories go way back when I was introduced to Ajay while he was doing a film with Karishma in 1992” …I was just ten years old. And now romancing him feels great. Singham-Returns” have action and comedy on a full length level. With Rohit Shetty, he is the only 200 crs director who shows dance…romance while cars are blown on the back of the scene. People love to watch his style of making. Working in commercially successful films is very important. It will be unfair for me not to do these big films with the Khans. Also if the story is on Salman and whatever little I have to do does not matter to me.

You are mostly associated with commercial films…why so?

 My mother Babita also enacted in most commercial films. She is beautiful and looked great in all her films. I remember my dad told me that every heroine wanted to be the part of Manmohan Desai’s film, as his films were hugely commercial. My dream role- I think I personally would like to enact ina film like Abhimaan and Aradhana, Alas! such films are not made anymore. Also my mom’s film with Rajesh Khanna ,”Raaz” which was her first film.Oh! I would also not mind doing her film,”Kismat.”My mother was considered to be a lucky actor thus she worked with all the top directors then.I  am being associated working with the “Khans” and commercial films. Yes, I have chosen few wrong films like “Gori Ter Pyaar mein and few others. But then if the films do not do well the actors are blamed.

Why did you opt out of “Shuddhi”?

Yes! I waited for more than two and a half years to work with Hrithik.Since Hrithik is not doing the film, I also opted out of the film”Shudhi.”

 What is different in “ Bajrangi” that you are doing  with Salman-

I am doing Bajrangi with Salman.This is a different film altogether. The film has intriguing human connect. Salman is producing this film under his name for the first time. This subject is close to Salman’s heart…he is very much close to his “Being Human” thus he has chosen tto produce the film.

Are you going “Globe-trotting” for holiday?

 I have opted out of many films, probably times have changed. I am no more single. I am married and so I will work only if my date’s matches with me. I have lots to do apart from films. Also I love to travel. After Singham2 is released we will go on a holiday. After “Happy ending is over Saif and I will go “Globe-Trotting.”

Do you read books connected to Crime thriller, also would you like to do a Crime thriller film?.

During my spare time I also love to read Crime thriller books, I am reading Scandinavian Johannesburg crime thriller book. I am also reading a few scripts when the tenth page of any script turns boring it is then I start reading these crime thrillers. Yes! I would definitely like to work in a crime thriller film. But scanning the book on reel exactly like what it is written is not always possible. Making crime thriller is a risky job.

When are Soha and Kunal getting married?

Lastly, confirming Soha’s and Kunal’s relationship Kareena says,” Soha is a wonderful person. I bond well with her. I do not know the exact date of their wedding plans. I am happy that they are together. Soha.Soha is very happy with Kunal around. They being together is indeed brings smiles on their faces. They should be tying the knot soon though.
