Revealed: Salman Khan copies a Bollywood Khan

The actor confesses that taking note of Aamir Khan’s popular promotional tactics, he believes in reaching out to his fans directly

Salman Khan finally shared the first ever trailer of his upcoming film 'Jai Ho' in an ingenious manner. It was carried out amidst hoots and claps of cheering fans gathered in Chandan cinema and a curious media.

Ask him about following Aamir Khan’s footsteps and opting for innovative promotional strategy for the trailer launch and he instantly responds,“Definitely, after wearing the cap of Aamir Khan my mind has started working like his. ‘Jai Ho’ will also ‘Dhoom Machayegi’ (create a bang).”

'Jai Ho' wasn't the first chioce as the film's title. An ever-obedient son, Salman reportedly changed the title from 'Mental' to the present title at his father Salim Khan's behest. On a light note he says, “ Because I am mental, that’s why its earlier title was named so.” Then on a serious note, he added, “Well ‘Mental’ was just a working title. And no sooner did we decide to give the film an apt title my father wanted us to change it to ‘Jai Ho’. As a son I think every son needs to respect the feelings and opinion of his father even if he may be a grown up man of marriageable age or being a father himself. Needless to say then we decided to change the title of ‘Mental’ to ‘Jai ho’.”

Talking about how he identifies with the common man, he shares, “I am also like a common man. Being born to a family of filmdom, I feel I am lucky. I have always liked to ride a bike and commute by rickshaws like any other commoner. Also like any other common man, I would like to punish any person who may have teased a girl in my presence.” Looking back at his journey of becoming an actor, he shares, “Having bestowed upon a chance of playing the lead hero in Sooraj Barjatiya’s first film ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, I have got the opportunity of becoming an actor. I thank God for it. Like a common man I also feel humbled that I am here only because of the fans that have supported me year after year. We make films not for the theatres but for our fans. And so I wanted to get directly in touch with them with our very first promos of ‘Jai Ho’.”

Expressing his views on eve teasing he adds, “If a girl is teased by anyone, we need to raise the voice against this misconduct. And the eve teaser need to be thrashed to teach him a lesson.”

Taking a dig at the media he added, “I thought if the fans get an opportunity to have the real feel of watching the promos with us, the media we will see it for themselves. So, it is good that we need to bridge the gap with our fans. I love my fans and like to share my thoughts as well my feelings with them directly. Therefore I tried to share the promos with them. It took me to change at least three to four posters and then bring this final poster to them. Hope they like it.”

Coming to the reality that every star faces he says, “Being away from the limelight and cameras which every actor has to face one day or the other and all of us do feel bad. Then the respect, adulation and praises what we will get for the seeds we have sown through our performances in the film and our good deeds will keep me going. But I hope that time does not come soon.”

‘Jai Ho’ is a remake of A R Murugadoss’ ‘Stalin’ starring Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi which also took inspiration from Hollywood’s ‘Pay It Forward’ and helmed by Salman’s younger brother Sohail Khan.  It is all set to release on Jan 24, 2014.
