The controversial title: Singh Saab The Great

Director Anil Sharma clarifies its ‘Saab’ not ‘Sahib’, therefore it should not hurt any sentiments
Sunny Deol’s upcoming movie, ‘Singh Saab the Great’ has run into trouble with the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which has objected to the title of the film. The SGPC believes it is a sacred title bestowed on the ‘Jathedars’ of the five ‘Takhts’ and the ‘granthis’ of the Golden Temple and therefore, it should not be used for commercial purpose.
“The title of the film must be changed and the film must be checked by the SGPC’s review committee,” said Karnail Singh Peer Mohammed, head of All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF).
However, during the music launch recently held in Mumbai, director Anil Sharma clarified, “The title of my film is ‘Singh Saab the Great’, and it is not ‘Sahib’. So, I see no reason for hurting any ones’ religious feelings at all.” And added, “Look! My film is at its release point. My posters are ready. Moreover, I have just come to know about this hiccup through the newspapers. I have yet received any intimation or any letter from anyone as mentioned in the reports. Unless and until any intimation is directed to me I cannot react to this report at all.”
Further adding his association with Sunny Deol, the lead in the movie, he says, “After ‘Gadar — Ek Katah’ Sunny and me are back. I am very happy about carrying forward our pair after few years again. The outcome of the film is very good and I am sure of its box office success.” And added, “As a filmmaker, we make films to entertain our audiences and without an iota of doubt we do not make films in order to hurt anyone’s sentiments.”
The film is scheduled for a November 22, 2013 release and we need to only wait and watch whether it raises any further eyebrows.

Vidya Balan’s marriage side effects

The actress confesses that as long as the woman does not sacrifice her own identity in a marriage, the side effects can be avoided
Vidya Balan who recently tied the knot with the head honcho of UTV, Sidharth Roy Kapoor is all set to bring co-actor, Farhan Akhtar to his knees in her next venture ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’.
“For me marriage has not yet given any sour taste. I indeed feel like a happily married woman. However, I opine there are bad as well as good effects in a marriage but I would only like to ask women that they should not end up losing themselves. Usually it is noticed that a woman somehow loses her identity and is overshadowed by her husband. This should not happen with us women,” she shares giving out the secret ‘funda’ of a happily married woman.
Adding further about the importance of respecting each other’s space in a marriage, she says, “I have just begun with my married life. At the moment, I can see all pink and am enjoying the good phase. The most important thing in our relationship is that both of us give enough space to each other. Also luckily my first look in the morning is very refreshing, as I look beautiful. And so the day begins on a good note!”
When asked about her husband turning the head honcho of UTV and whether she has proved to be his lucky charm? To this she laughs aloud and refutes, “No, not at all. I know how hard working Sid is. He can sacrifice anything when it comes to his work. All the credit for his promotions is absolutely because of his brilliant as well as his own sincere efforts. However his responsibilities will increase.” And adds, “I hope many more success to him and why not? His promotions are matter of pride for me being his wife.”
This being Vidya’s first Diwali post marriage, she reveals her plans for celebrating it and shares, “Diwali for me is going to me no different. I do not like to wear makeup and dress up on festive seasons. Yes, we will do our prayers, as usual, wish our close family members and friends. I like a noise and pollution free Diwali. As usual this Diwali too we will celebrate with our family members.”
Switching on to her co–actor Farhan Akhtar in ‘Shaadi ke Side Effects’, she adds, “If I had to watch the movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ before doing ‘Shaadi ke Side Effects’, then I think I would have to think twice whether to work with Farhan, as I feel I cannot match the brilliant timing of Farhan. He has done a brilliant job in the film. But definitely we enjoyed working together. His jovial nature and his jokes would allow me to get into bouts of laughter for hours together.” In ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’, Vidya and Farhan play a married couple and the film is a sidesplitting take on martial relationships.

'Krrish 3': Hrithik Roshan on Bollywood’s ultimate super-hero

Actor says the film is for people across all age groups

Hrithik Roshan is once again becoming a superhero with ‘Krrish-3’ and he is hopeful that the movie will be enjoyed by the kids as well the grownups across all age groups.

Hrithik feels great belonging to the Roshan clan and surely enough, he doesn’t care for royalty on his films from his dad as he quips, “Definitely, I feel royal being his son.”

“All of us work hard. But unless the result is great and the film is liked by one and all, we cannot say our hard work has paid off,” shares the actor about the chances of success of his upcoming venture.

Paying tribute to his dad, he shares, “It is the spirit of just one man –none other than my dad. His vision made everything possible merely for the courage he has shown to make this film. The great response instills immense pleasure in all of us.”

Talking about teamwork, he adds, “Let me tell you nothing could have been possible without everyone’s joint efforts. Our spirits have been kept intact for each character and the technical team has worked hard to gain this great result.”

Talking about his inspiration, he shares, “Anil Kapoor has been an inspiration to me right from my childhood. Everyone would comment saying how much I resemble him.

“I can never address him as uncle because he looks much younger than me. I have adopted his approach He has been my role model. I have been inspired from him and have always analysed things through his eyes.”

Sharing about how the film came about, he says, “It took us almost four years to be able to decide to make the film. I remember dad trying to drop the idea of making this film.

“However, while watching films like ‘Iron Man’, ‘Avengers’ and other films, it became tougher for us. Finally we decided to technically complete the film here in India itself. This makes us feel more proud.”

“My son Rehean kept mum for some time after watching ‘Krrish3’. After hearing from his mouth ‘Krrish’ is the best film, I was very thrilled,” shares the happy father.

Talking about the selection of the villain, he discloses, “‘Krrish’ establishes the superhero but without the super villain a hero will never shine. It was a critical selection as to who could be the villain. One morning when we sat down to decide, we could only relate to one baddy –Vivek Oberoi.”

“It is fortunate that I am living different characters through my dad’s films. Bringing joy and happiness to the kids through my character brings in contentment within me. My dad too had to turn a child in order to bring such lively moments onscreen. I will feel happy if along with kids, people of all ages too will like and be entertained through this film,” says the actor.

‘I sacrificed a good job for Bollywood’

The original bad boy of Bollywood, Gulshan Grover has limited his screen presence to powerful cameos in big banners. The actor says, “I am happy that at this stage of life a lot of directors want to work with me, offering various characters. I am turning a good guy from the bad one. And this makes me feel great.”
Hailing from Delhi, Gulshan talks about how his family supported him when he was taking baby steps in filmdom. He says, “When I was going to leave for Mumbai, my mom said, ‘Shaam ko wapas aa jana’ (Return home in the evening). I laughed and told her my working place is far away and it will not be possible.”
While Grover had a big dream of acting, his family was strict saying that he should complete his education. “My parents believed that their children should complete their education. They felt that education plays an important part in life. Soon after I completed my graduation in commerce, they wanted me to be a bank manager or handle a commerce business. But I sacrificed a good job to belong to this film industry,” reminisces Gulshan.
Later being a parent himself, the actor maintained that his son too should complete his education. Grover says, “Following my parents’ views, I too wanted my son Sanjay Grover to complete his studies as well. I am proud of the fact that as a parent I have successfully inculcated all ethical values in my son. He is 26 years old and has completed his education in Los Angeles. He is a Hollywood director now.”
While his son is gathering experience in Hollywood, Gulshan says he has no plans to join the bandwagon. He says, “My son may want to give me an opportunity to work in Hollywood but he is fully aware that at the moment his father is keen on completing his Hindi films. I have lost many opportunities in Hollywood owing to my commitments in this industry. But am happy with my current projects.” Grover will be seen playing a villain in Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Bullett Raja’.
Being a veteran in the industry now, the actor gives a piece of advice to the many aspiring actors. “I feel proud to be a part of this industry and would advice all the new entrants to sincerely follow their profession. When you are true to your craft, success will come knocking on your door,” concludes Gulshan.

‘No time for marriage’: Priyanka Chopra

DC | Lipika Varma | 5 hours 25 min ago
Since her father’s death earlier this year, life has been a rollercoaster ride for Priyanka Chopra. Her debut English single 'Exotic' released to mixed reviews while the much-hyped 'Zanjeer' bombed. Priyanka now wants to put all that behind her and is hoping for the best for 'Krrish 3'.
While discussing superheroes, the topic of “good” and “bad” always crops. Talking about her positive and negative traits, she says, “No human being is perfect. My negative traits override my positive ones. I am very impatient, emotional and end up taking wrong decisions because of that. I am not an early riser which is even worse. I have no fixed schedules and I hate working out.”
However, her character in 'Krrish 3' is not negative. “It’s about good and evil. Rohit, Krrish and I are good and Kaal and Kaya are negative.”
About her definition of a superhero, Priyanka says, “I think a superhero is someone who overcomes problems and makes people’s lives better. Each one of us has a superhero inside.”
“My dad is a superhero for me. He did all the superheroic things for me. I was his favourite. He  never let me down,” she adds.
Her superhero in the industry, however, is Amitabh Bachchan. “He is a superhero because of the way he has handled himself and his career. I admire his energy levels which are so high even today, that we can’t keep up.”
Talking more about 'Krrish 3', Priyanka jokes, “All characters in the film are after me. Actually the film should be named Priyanka.”
When we ask her whether she has given any thought to marriage, she says, “I am a working woman and I have no time to think of marriage. My brother wants to get married and he found the right girl so we got him engaged. But I am very work-driven and India has also changed and you can be a working woman without getting married.”

Deepika’s food fetish
Like every other kid, Deepika Padukone has been a fan of her mother’s food, and nothing beats the South Indian delicacies made by her mom. “I am very much fond of the South Indian dishes made by mom. She always gets worried about my food when I am travelling. Hence I carry homemade food while on the go,” reveals Deepika.
Narrating a recent incident where she was stuck without food, it was her mother’s concern which came handy. “Recently while travelling, all my food baggage was left behind. But thanks to my mother’s advice given to my staff they always keep a separate bag of biscuits for me. It was a blessing in disguise.”

Hrithik Roshan on being an onscreen superhero

The actor reveals despite having attained stardom, he believes in leaving it outside his doorstep
Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3’ is set for a worldwide release on Diwali. The actor reveals about his expectations from the third installment of his superhero franchise and how he believes in keeping his super stardom status outside his doorstep.
What are your expectations from ‘Krrish 3’?
The reactions have been very good. There have been assuring reactions, this makes us feel that we are on the right track, because such films outcome can go both ways. The special effect can be scary. But people are comparing it to Hollywood films. We are having a feeling that we are going to make it. Almost getting 17 billions reactions after our promo was released make us confident that people are waiting impatiently to watch ‘Krrish 3’. With this film, India is surely going to cross the boundaries and will open market for Indian films. Everything is looking good. We are indeed hopeful.
What about emotions over ruling special effects in the film?
Emotions have always been important in the films of my father Rakesh Roshan. Krishna’s story was that of a simple mountain boy, a simple boy born to Rohit out of love. It is the story of grandmother and the grandchild. Rohit is the hero of the film because from ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ to ‘Krrish 3’, all the emotions are associated to Rohit. The progression of Krishna going onto the super hero makes this film a fully-fledged science fiction.
However, some people may yet like the simplicity of the simpleton Krishna. This film is more about the story and less about the special effect. But every hand is being associated to the first homegrown special effect film the character, which is a combination of a child and father is indeed very challenging. Rohit’s character is indeed the most vulnerable. After seven years when I was to do this character of ‘Krrish’, I refreshed the walk, the talk etc. This was very challenging for me. However the special effect is just the decoration in the film but with this kind of special effect all our actors will get motivation and we will not have to look towards Hollywood. We will have all these facilities at home.
What are the challenges that you faced?
My own experience, I decided that if I can rise once why not second time. I have fallen and risen many a times in life right from my childhood days. I have not had a good childhood. I have so many points. Children in school would mock me and I would come home crying. I could not go to school because I had rheumatism in my knees and thus the percentage attendance was very less. I had back spasm. When I did ‘Guzarish’ the doctor said that I could not work henceforth, so I decided to put in more as this would be my last film. I always took challenges in life in a positive manner. I never looked up to the negative happenings in life. I always chose all the resources that may be readily available within me and thereafter face all the challenges in life. I opine that we should not sit back and sulk instead open up the realm of possibilities and make the best of it. I have never blamed anyone, not the situation but have tried to make the best use of the prevailing situation. Being desperate or giving opportunity to disparity is one thing not in my dictionary.
What is your learning from ‘Krrish’?
When we started ‘Krrish 3’, I faced double problems. It began with slip disc and ended with a hole in the brain. It was damn difficult for me to be able to perform. At this point of time I just thought if I was Krrish in real? And this gave me a kind of power. I feel each one of us have this Krrish like feeling and we should try to make the best of it. I learnt a lot from the character of Krrish. Whatever God has given us we need to be happy. From this character I learnt to give my power to people around me and thus make them more powerful. I feel there is nothing impossible in this world. I have proved science to be wrong as every time the doctors advised me to do this or that, I gathered all my courage and performed everything that I wanted to do.
How is your experience of being a father?
My children’s unconditional love forced me to perform the character of Krrish. As a father I want my children to realise that there is no word as impossible. When they grow up and learn all about me they should also feel positive. They should be motivated and also perform their duties to the best of their abilities. Father son relationship definitely inspires each other in all manner. We all do look back to the hard work our parents have put in. I have been inspired by my own challenges and so as a father I want my children to be able to face all the challenges and come out with flying colors in every situation.
What is stardom to you?
Stardom for me is outside my door. I keep it out, sometimes I open the door to feel the power and make other people more powerful. Whenever I am at home I like to enjoy with my folks and friends. I am humble about having been bestowed upon the stardom by millions of my fans, they consider me as their super hero. I owe the super hero image to the audiences. So it is my responsibility to give them back the power, which they have given to me from time to time.

The other Deva dances his way to stardom

Choreographer Vishnu Deva has travelled a long way to come out of the shadows of his illustrious gurus Ganesh Acharya and Prabhu Deva. The latest feather in his cap was making Priyanka Chopra sizzle for an item number in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ramleela.
Most people in Bollywood think he is Prabhu Deva’s brother. Vishnu says, “I think I am more than his real brother,” adding, “My name is very similar to his so everyone thinks I am his brother. I have been associated with Prabhu Deva from his directorial debut Telugu film. Since then, he has always wanted me to assist him. Not many know that I started my stint with choreographer Ganesh Acharya. I married his sister and have been living in Mumbai for many years now. For the past few years I have been doing independent choreography.”
About the Ramleela item number with Priyanka, Vishnu says, “Getting a chance to choreograph for Ramleela was undoubtedly a Herculean task as it is not very easy to convince Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He opted for me because he had seen my work over the years. It is just because of my hard work that he gave me a chance to choreograph Priyanka Chopra. It was very exciting to work with Priyanka. She was quick to grasp the steps. I remember when she had to take circles on her knees for this song, she unhesitatingly continued to perform until the steps fell in place. Such was her professionalism that though her knees got bruised, she continued to complete the steps. She is a very friendly actor and easy to work with. She throws no tantrums on the sets.”
About his favourites in the industry, he says, “Hrithik is a fabulous dancer. Shah Rukh’s solo number Dhammru was choreographed by me. Salman loves to learn new steps. Shahid Kapoor too is a good dancer.”

Dia Mirza’s stint as a filmmaker

She shares the experience of change in career choice and her impending nuptials

Actress-turned-producer Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha, who signed up Vidya Balan for their upcoming detective themed film, ‘Bobby Jasoos’ pin their hopes on it despite their first venture ‘Love Breakups Zindagi’ not doing well at the box office.
Talking about her switch from being in front of the camera to being behind it, Dia shares, “As an actor on daily basis I did have to face insecurity, as in how I look today. Will I be able to give in an impressive performance? I must confess that right now I am in the most enriching space. As an actor every time I met you guys you would keep inquiring what I have signed, I could not tell you anything as I was then busy getting ready with my own production.” And adds, “I am passionate about cinema. However, I also love to be in front of the camera. But with my second project ‘Bobby Jasoos’, I am all set to release the film being directed by debutante Sameer Sheikh. I know few films based on detective genre that is also releasing along with our film. I did initially feel why only with our films? But its okay, I am fine with it.”
Shedding light on the great bond with Vidya Balan, she adds, “Usually Vidya takes few months to read the script but she finalised this character quite on time. I share a great bond with her from the ‘Parineeta’ days. I have shared a good rapport with her always. It has to be an organic relationship for that we do not need to meet every day.”
One thing Dia does regret that Vidya is like a family but she has not yet invited her home (parental place) for a good south-Indian meal and she quips, “Oh yes, I am going to remind her to give me a Tamil treat at home.”
When asked whether her marriage got postponed because of her film? She replies, “Yes, you can say so. Filmmaking is something we both, Sahil and me are passionate about. Undoubtedly, when I entered film industry, I was just 18 years and now I am 32years. I have to get married. Probably marriage can happen sometime next year.”
When asked whether she has set any specific date for her marriage, she shares, “Nothing specific. Also, if I give you any particular date and if it does not turn to happen on the same date, then you guys will again keep asking me varied questions. So as of now let it be just next year with no specific month or date.”
Dia openly talks about her fondness for Sahil and shares, “He is a simpleton but at the same time he is very clear in his mind as to what he wants and what he does not want. At times he keeps telling me not to let my heart rule my mind, which does happen with me often.” And adds, “He has a leadership quality and knows how to steer clear in every confusion like while drafting story line or else getting quality work done for our films, he is always perfectly chalking out things. Any relationship can be carried out for a longer duration of time only if there is respect as well as understanding between the two.”
When asked whether Dia has completed her wedding trousseau and done with her jewellery shopping, she says, “Whatever, I have with me I think is more than enough. I specifically have not shopped keeping in mind my wedding trousseau.” When asked who will be designing her wedding gown, she shares, “Thia being my designer has been designing dresses for different occasions that I wear. She will decide on my wedding gown and what colour it has to be. I am cool with her choice of clothes. She has always made me look pretty.”
Last but not the least when asked who all will be invited to her wedding, she replies, smiles, “Actually we will be inviting all close, near and dear friends for the wedding.”

Salman Khan has proudly flaunted his most eligible bachelor status for the longest time. And his fans of course, ponder about when their heartthrob might tie the knot but strangely this question does not seem to bother his sisterin- law, Malaika Arora Khan.
“ It will happen, when it has to happen. Marriages are made in heaven and solemnised on the earth. So wait for that day,” she shares.
At a recent event, when Malaika was asked if she was tensed about Salman’s wedding, she replied, “ Why should I be tensed? That is his mother’s job, not mine. I’m sure when he is ready to get married he will get married. And that is a very personal question not for me or anyone else to answer. Salman will be the right person to answer this query.” Salman’s health has also been a matter of concern but he has been continuously shooting for ‘ Jai Ho’, which is slated to release this December.

Lucky Kabootar - another double meaning comedy
Late Raj Kanwar’s son Karan Raj Kanwar is following in his dad’s footsteps and after producing ‘Lucky Kabootar’ plans to venture into direction.
When Karan was questioned as to why he chose the comedy genre, he replied, “I feel we are just following the trend. Something that is liked by the audiences has to be fed to them. All I can say is that the dialogues do not have double meaning. In fact our film has bagged an UA certificate.” And adds on a nostalgic note, “Also, the script of this film was thoroughly narrated by the director Shammi Chhabra to dad while he was alive and he had given us a green signal. He did appreciate the intriguing tale.”
