Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan is probably the most active Bollywood star on Twitter and had garnered lakhs of fans much before the Khan triumvirate decided to descend on the social networking site. He comments on interviews and issues, and updates his page no matter where he’s travelling or how busy he is with his shooting schedules.
The origins of his Twitter story are found more in his need to set the record straight than any technological enthusiasm on the part of the actor. Bachchan says, “Many years ago, I wasn’t very familiar with websites and other social media. Some of my well wishers mentioned that there are more than about 200 websites in my name. When I went through them, I realised that they (the well wishers) were right. But many of the websites mentioned a few facts about me rather incorrectly,” says Bachchan.
Prod him a bit more about what the websites tended to get wrong, and Bachchan says, “Actually, they had mentioned that I am a qualified double MA. The truth is far from it. Fact is that Maine MA ki padahi kabhi ki hi nahi hai! (I have never done my MA) Then I thought about launching a website. But I was told that it would take almost five to six months of work on it till it can be launched; I was expecting it to be completed within a day. Of course, this wasn’t possible! At this point in time, I decided to take to Twitter and I have now become fluent with social media.”
