I am surprised to note his zeal for acting even today, which is wonderful.
I am surprised to note his zeal for acting even today, which is wonderful.
Mumbai: Abhishek Bachchan, who has got rave reviews for his character Nandu Bhide in Happy New Year, is naturally in awe of his father.

Remembering an incident when Amitabh had to dub for Agnipath in a single day, he says, “I still remember dad had to re-dub the whole film in one day as the film was to release on this day. I had accompanied dad and I experienced his toughest dubbing day. But dad finished the dubbing of each scene effortlessly and completed the full dubbing in merely seven-eight hours. I was too small then to learn much but I loved to watch him dub and also to watch him shoot on the sets.”

All praises for his father, he adds, “Not only is he passionate about his craft, but he is always ready to give his best. He works very hard. Also, has no ego at all. I am surprised to note his zeal for acting even today, which is wonderful.

“Even at 72, dad still works like a child, whenever he has to go on a shoot he rehearses his dialogues thoroughly, over and over again, he does it through the night. He loves his profession.

“Actors like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are not complacent at all. These successful actors of our times, even after having attained success, are always ready to oblige the directors and their co-actors by giving their best. We may say ‘theek hai, they are lucky enough to attain success’. But they always want to give their best in front of the camera,” says the actor.

Not only a great actor, junior Bachchan has also come a long way to become a great businessman.

“I think I am a very good businessman. And I feel we need to be realistic in filmmaking. At the end of the day, business needs to be kept very simple. Do not make it complicated. We have just finished the principle photography of our next film Shamitabh. Balki and I have co-produced the movie.

“I took immense care when I made Paa. Balki and I had many sessions discussing all the nuances of filmmaking. We made the film in Rs 16 crore to17 crore and I got an offer to sell it for Rs 60 crore, which I did. I also made a lot of money for Buddha Hoga Tera Baap. I had made it in Rs 10.5 crore and sold the satellite rights for Rs 14 crore.

“Each story has a market and a budget. If you make it in that budget you will make profits. Films never fail, your budget fails,” says Abhishek.
Making films with his father, how does he manage Big B’s finances? “Dad’s finance equation is simple, there is no financial equation. We are one family, sab kuch dono ka hi hai, hum ek hi chat ke neeche rehtey hein. There is no question of any financial equation at all.”

At this point, our interview is interrupted as Abhishek gets a call from his wife, Aishwarya. “These journalists are asking when will you make a comeback?” he asks her. And then tells us with a smile, “She’s sitting in front of a camera.”

On spending time with daughter Aradhya, he says, “Aradhya and I love spending time together and she enjoys every bit. She, however, is too small now to express much.”

``Am Single and ready to mingle`` Lisa
Friday 31 October 2014 | 6:55 AM | By Lipika Varma
Lisa Haydon has made it from her very first film “Aisha …Rascals and Queen and now playing the pivotal role in “Sahukeens…She gets chatty in a close rendezvous with Lipika Varma
Working with NSD Actors,
They made me incredibly comfortable from the get go and it was a blessing. It was not intimidating experience at all. They were such confident volunteers and it’s a stress free work environment. They give their characters such nuances and you as a co-actor it helps to bring out your character more. When I got to sets knowing that they are veterans I tried to balance and surely tried and met their caliber half way.
Queen –A stepping stone
Every film is a stepping stone. Queen sort of broke down all the walls for me. Earlier I was considered a glamorous person and a model.  Queen gave me an opportunity and director like Vikas Bahl too allowed me to showcase my acting abilities. I am so blessed that a film like Queen came along. I wouldn’t be happy doing the role of a hooker or ex-model I wouldn’t find it challenge.  She’s the anti hero in the film.  I think Queen broke that perception.
On more exposure after Queen-
People are looking for actors these days more than anything else. It’s not just about being quintessential roles. All the girls are doing performance oriented roles and have been applauded for their roles. It’s not about looking glamorous. Kangana did Queen and Vidya did Kahani or Deepika doing Finding Fanny.  It’s a big mix of formula. I don’t think -girls are looking for those kind of roles anymore. That road block is no more on just being the “Glam Doll”
On her looks and sensuality
I am glad that people find my looks good and sensuality. I hope it opens more  doors for me.
Working with Akshay-
He has a cameo and has a role which he plays himself. He plays an alcoholic and I loved Akshay in the role. We spent a lot of time laughing. I was very touched that he stayed over there to make us comfortable.
Akshay’ Tips-
We had many discussions and conversations. He is a great disciplarian and brings more energy on the sets though he has been here for 25 years . I used to wake up six in the morning and talk and he has the same energy and same enthusiasm even by the dusk. There was this shoot where I was supposed to jump. He gave me his journey and tips on how to do the scene. He walked that extra mile for me.Smilingly he advised m eto jump the wall off…laughs

Real Shaukeen old man experience-
We were flying on a plan me and Uvika and there was an old man who was looking at us and saying can I sit on the empty chair besides us. He was so naughty and old and he was so sweet. We burst out laughing as we were flying to cape Town. When old men hit on you it’s so full of admiration.
On Anupam being the naughtiest-
Kher sir was the naughtiest and he is so lovable and he makes sure that he makes you comfortable. He is very interactive. Actors love themselves and Kher has no qualms about showing it.  The director says that the three oldies and I am standing with Akshay and crying.  And Kher sir would say cut that‘s not the way you shoot this scene. When will the does camera ban on me….. He is very lovable human and authentic.
Single female- being centre of attraction-
It gives you that kind of quirk.  The moment it’s called action as an actor those kinds of quirks. Everyone vies for attention. It doesn’t leave a lot of empty spaces and  I enjoyed that. Characters’ are all abut it’s all about  their journey and their space and  here everybody was catering to my story and my character and it’s great being on the other side.
My  downloaded  the original for me I will be watching it in next  few days. But I didn’t watch it before because director and Akshay told me don’t watch it and get crazy ideas.  Rati Agnihotri is classy girl and Ahana is a child and is crazy there’s a lot of difference.  My dad loved the film and was laughing through out.
On making it big in films
Have I? I can make it bigger.  I don’t think it was a cake walk and acting is not an easy profession. You have to work and you have to decide and the hardest part is the emotional work. It’s not labor work; You have to decide and get out of the emotions. It’s hard to shake if off and rearrange all the emotions.
Success….And.. Expectations-
Aisha – No I was clueless I was just offer and it was more of a family affair and it was not such a big career move.  People were shocked that I did the film. I was getting a lot of offers from Hollywood.  I enjoyed making the choices.  I think the film did fine my role was not relevant enough and it was more of a corner stone for Sonam Kapoor
On Being emotional-
I am very emotional. I wish I dealt with my emotions a little better and surely. I think I am kiddish or emotionally volatile. Having a realistic perspective on things you can keep a check on your emotions and realize that everything happens for a reason and understanding that life is not in your control and go with the flow.  More probable I wouldn’t get engaged in things that make sure that my emotions don’t flow.
On Item dance-
I wouldn't mind doing dance films. I like to do a film where I can play a guitar. It really depends on what film and what song but I don’t like the term item.
 Your Brand Naked-
We make according to the orders I make limited products, I make essential oils, vitamin E and stuff like that. . The whole concept behind Naked is  it’s very challenging.  I think I could be better.
Finally she discloses sincerely about having no films yet and her being single, “I haven’t signed any films now. I am still single.  How can I mingle the moment I do it you will all know. There are lots of speculations…..So what can I say. Its better I just keep mum-

Randhir Kapoor talks about his career taking back seat, About Rekha being temperaments and turning prettier now, About Raj Kapoor , Kareena and Karishma and Ranbir being cast in his next-

On discontinuing working in films  the Eighties-

Randhir’s profession took a back seat in the Eighties. The actor informs why he opted to stop working in films then. “I had my boundaries and restrictions on doing films. So I stopped working in the eighties. This was an era where films were more action oriented. Most of the characters cast in the pivotal roles were either “Dakus” or Police inspectors. My face suits neither of these characters. I cannot look like a “Daku.” So professionally -acting had taken a back seat. I have no regrets. Also this was an era where multi-starrer films were being made. I did not want to be one amongst them…I refused to take a flag in my hand and plainly make people aware that I am also here in this film!! I have been whimsical, temperament …Aur pagal toh mein pehle se hi hoon. I was doing what I wanted to do.”

On his comeback

One of my fans met me in Goa long back. I was surprised to hear from him about his wish to see me in films again. This fan told me that all of us are waiting to watch your films and requested me to make a comeback. I was very much touched by his words “Aap jaise bhi hain…achche ya bure hai. Lekin hum dekhna chahatey hai ki hamara Randhir ab kaisa lagta hai.” He went on to coax me saying that I am depriving them from watching my films. At this point of time I decided to take a plunge into the celluloid once again. This is a proven fact that I am not doing films in order to run my kitchen I am blessed with a good life wherein I can lead a comfortable life being able to eat and live on my own terms. I am blessed by the almighty God….usne mujhe itne paise diye hain ki mein achchi zindagi guzar sakta hoon. I then decided to start doing films. I was also aware of the fact that at this juncture of my life I cannot play romantic pivotal roles. Whatever roles were being offered to me I selected out of those and here I am.”

Working with Director Inder Kumar opposite Rekha in Super Nani

I occasionally work in the films. I chose to work with him merely because I liked the character. It suits my stature and image. I cannot run around trees now. Also, I was to work with Rekha, she is my favorite heroine. I have worked in lots of films with her. I believe we worked together in more than 20 films. It was indeed a good luck for me to be able to work with Rekha, also being together on the sets was a matter of delight. She is an excellent actor but now I find her much more mature. Yes earlier owing to her young age she was temperamental and impulsive... But we have always shared a good relationship. Even now when people ask me about my opinion for Rekha- I tell them that she has become prettier now.[Laughs] We sat down during the leisure time on the sets and talked  in our luvvy duvvy  manner. Pyaar mohabat ki batein hamesha romantic nahi hoti hai…pyaar mein apni maa se bhi karta hoon.So my love for Rekha is very platonic. We enjoyed each other’s company.”

On friendship with Rekha

We have had a good off screen friendship too. We have been in touch off and on. But definitely I may take this opportunity to tell you guys that Rekha has calmed down over the years…she is more understanding and sobered down to quite an extent. It was indeed fun to be together discussing about our films. We enjoyed the nostalgic moments together.

Belonging to a well to-do filmy family- it's God’s blessings that I am bestowed upon every luxury by the almighty God. Moreover, having two pretty, intelligent and professionally affluent daughters [Kareena and Karishma]. At times I tell them that they should adopt me. Undeniably, I love to eat and booze….but I also tell them even if I spend a lot of money my finances will never lessen. My children are doing well it is god’s blessings. I always pray for their good health.

Directing films again-

Yes! We are planning a couple of films. However, we will definitely be doing films that R.K. Banner has been offering to the audiences. I will be directing films under R.K. Banner soon. No one can become like Raj Kapoor nor match his vision. Not even me. I am nobody to feel that I have inherited his vision on par with film making. Everyone knows he was a legend. I only feel he is always with us. No matter it may have been 25 years or more that he has left for his heavenly abode….But I always feel he must be sitting right next to me even at this moment..Agar sab Raj Kapoor jaise ban jaye toh 200 se zyada Raj Kapoor iss duniya mein Ghum rahein hotey.”

To work with Ranbir,Kareena and Karishma-

You never know! Ranbir Kapoor could be in my next venture also Kareena or Karishma could be working with me. But I shall open my cards when the right time arrives!!

Ajay Devgn and Prakash Jha
Actor Ajay Devgn and filmmaker Prakash Jha, who have worked together in films like Raajneeti, Satyagraha, Gangajal, Apaharan etc. have decided to jointly produce films. They will make about 12 films a year.
Talking about the collaboration, Prakash Jha says that Ajay has been like a mascot for him. “Ajay Devgn has given me hope, faith and we have continued to grow with each other… We have now decided to produce multiple films. Doing Gangajal-2 with Ajay is a must…without him G2 cannot be complete. He is like my younger brother.”
Apart from 'Gangajal-2', the team will be producing 'Fraud Saiyyan', to be directed by Saurabh Srivastav with Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla as the lead actors. Jha adds that the film will see Arshad Warsi with 13 wives.
Then there will be 'Raajneeti -2', with Ajay Devgn in the lead, and 'We Are Kukkad Family', which will be directed by Riteish Menon.
Jha adds, “I am happy to announce that my daughter Disha is turning producer with 'We Are Kukkad Family'. One day she came to me and said, ‘Baba I have a wonderful script and I would like to produce this film. I have also arranged for the finances’. When I read the script – it was unlike my kind of films –I was bowled by the commercial masala movie. And I am proud of the fact that my daughter has the vision.”
Another film in the pipeline is 'Lipstickwaale Sapne', says Jha.
Following in father’s footsteps
Talking about turning producer with 'We Are Kukkad Family', Prakash Jha’s daughter Disha (adopted when he was married to Deepti Naval), says, “I have learnt so much from him (Prakash) and I will definitely also try to make films that he is known for.”
Talking about arranging for finances even before she pitched the idea to her father, Disha says, “Yeah, but I must thank my dad for reading my vision and for allowing me the chance to make a commercial comedy film which is unlike his serious and meaningful films. He understood the importance of my script, which was fulfilling for me. Without his support, I would have not been able to complete this film. Finally, he even supported me financially.”
Will we see her mother Deepti Naval in any of her films? “Obviously…without my mother my filmy journey will remain incomplete. I will be casting her in one of my films. I already have the role in my mind for her,” she says.

Akshay eyes national award with Shaukeens

We were the first to tell you that Akshay Kumar is playing himself in The Shaukeens but with a twist. In his most special appearance to date, Akshay plays a fictional version of himself – with him being an alcoholic being one of the traits.

Akshay has chosen to laugh at himself in the film – the first ever in Bollywood by any actor. Bombay Times now reveals another ‘facet’ to his character that forms a highlight in the film.

While the real life Akshay has often taken digs at film awards, in The Shaukeens, the actor is shown as a superstar who’s actually craving the National Award.

Director Abhishek Sharma reveals, “It’s actually very funny. Akshay Kumar plays Akshay Kumar. But he desperately wants to win the National Award. There is this huge conflict between him and his business manager (Cyrus Broacha cast very interestingly) who wants him to break box-office records instead. But Akshay is ready to do anything to bag the most respected award in the country.”

According to the director, the way and means Akshay uses to try and reach his goal of winning the National Award is what forms a crucial track in the film. “In the middle of all this mad conflict are a greedy secretary, an eccentric director and a commercial filmmaker – all driving Akshay crazy who’s anyway being wasted in alcohol. It is madness like never seen before,” promises Abhishek.
