Sanjay Kapoor is excited about making a comeback as an actor in ‘Kahin Hai Mera Pyaar’. “Yes! Initially I was skeptical whether to take up this film or not. But I got convinced after reading the script. The role is good. After meeting the director Mahesh Doijode, I was convinced that there is no marketing gimmick but film making is his priority,” says the actor.
Talking about taking his chances with budding talent, he says, “Sometimes newcomers are unable to complete the film. But the film is on dubbing stage and my role will surely allure the audiences. Not that I did not get offers, I was not free.” And adds that in the sabbatical he was busy with his film production.
When asked about his look-alike brother, Anil Kapoor, he replies with a laugh, “Why will I not look like my brother as we are born of same parents. It is good indeed that I am look alike Anil! I do not think I lost on films just because I am like Anil. When Shammi Kapoor entered the industry there was a buzz that he was so much like Raj Kapoor but he started performing differently. I look it the other way around. If I did not resemble Anil, people would start presuming differently!”
Talking about his own style quotient and acting, he shares, “An actor has his own style and his mannerisms differ from one another. In fact, I am happy with my film career. I never got frustrated if I did not act on the silver screen, as there is so much to do apart from acting. My father once told me you should look at people who have yet not been able to make it and believe in yourself, work hard and go ahead in life.”
Having done roles with shades of grey he feels is nothing bad. “After performing in films like ‘Koi Mere Dil se Puche’, I gathered tons of appreciation. Doing a negative role feels great. In ‘Sholay’, the negative character of Gabbar has been a trademark for all the performers. His role is un-forgetful.”
Ask Sanjay why he has chosen the triangular love tale of ’Kahin Hai Mera Pyaar’ and playing the romantic angle at this age, he shares, “What do you mean? I am still young. Unquestionably, when Mahesh came to me, I was like ‘Why, not me? Getting the chance to enact a different character after many days made me feel great.” Getting into the details of his character, he shares, “This character reveals the heights of obsession while in love and that creates a lot of problems. All of us have also experienced it in our real lives. But one need not give problems a chair to sit on. Obsession ruins the lives of a couple. Everyone in today’s times need to give space to the other.” When talking about love he feels that it is understanding and finding ways to be in love always.
Talking about whether he would want his children to join the film industry, he confesses, “I belong to this industry. So many people have made their career over here. If my daughter Shanaya wants to make it big on the silver screen, she will get all the support from me. My son is too small however. It will be hypothetical to presume what they would like to do. I will not push them to do something, which will not be of their choice.” Talking about his family he shares that he has a closely knit family and that his sister’s son Mohit Marwah will soon be spotted in Bollywood.
Shedding light on his future production projects, he shares, “We are planning to produce ‘Khel Khel Mein’ under Sanjay Kapoor productions. I have bought the remake rights. We have a gold mine of films like ‘Mr. India’, ‘Hum Paanch’ and much more. We will begin ‘Mr. India’ only after we are satisfied with the script. I do not think anyone should remake films unless they are sure of remaking a better film.”
While talking about Arjun Kapoor he says proudly, “Arjun has all the potential to rock Bollywood. He is definitely hard working. He proved to be a boon not only to our family but to this industry also. I am all set to remake ‘Ukkadu’ with Arjun and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. We have yet not decided on the title,” concludes the actor who has donned different hats.
