Akshay Kumar’s next release “Holiday”
will see him playing a different character. Akshay talks about his films,
producing films, keeping family ties strong, etc in an exclusive rendezvous
with Lipika Varma.
About
the film, Holiday-
What are “Sleeper cells” I too have just
come to understand the meaning of “Sleeper Cells? They are indeed they are the
oldest terrorist who live amongst us. But we never come to know. It will be
surprising if I say that few amongst you guys too would be belonging to the
sleeper terrorists group.. They belong from a terrorist group but we do not
know about it because they blend so well within the society that we do not
realize about their existence. Those are the most difficult terrorist to
capture. Whatever discussions I had with director Murgadoss I literally went
into deeper discussions, the script became more interesting. Whether it was
9/11 or the attack at Taj Mumbai, these attacks were all done by the sleeper
cells. In this film we also show that the killing of the sleeper cells is of no
use. We have to find out their head- as in their leader. As the common sleeper
cell guy is not connected to each other. The head is connected to all of them.
It is an amazing Arithmetic. While watching the film you will realize how these
Sleeper cells work. This is the best film to know -how to capture ‘sc’
terrorists. After hearing just the first half of the script, I was prepared to
do this film. I did not bother to hear the second half of the script.
Holiday not a remake- Tuppakki
Actually, when this story was heard by
us, at that point of time Murgadoss wanted to make this subject down South.
Thereafter he wanted to do it in Hindi with us. Hence Holiday cannot be tagged.
This subject I selected even before it was made in Tamil on Murugadoss’s
request we decided to make the film after he has done with the Tamil version.
Box office imp or audiences
In today’s time the Box office report is
important, but I think days have almost changed when people are not bothered about
Box office collections. Undeniably, the content is what bothers them more. The
B.O numbers go on fluctuating very far if the content is alluring. So we must
go for content first… I did “Holiday” for its mind blowing content. I do not
know? But yes! It is not a typical Akshay Kumar kind of a film where you
find-Mauj-masti ‘fun and frolic filled….etc.This film is a serious kind of a
thriller, because we are surrounded with this terrorist kind of an atmosphere.
Marketing
strategy-
Now you will see the seriousness of the
film vide our promotions. Hindi films do have dance and songs so we promoted
all that until this day. But our next promotional strategy will focus on the
seriousness of the film. He comes for a Holiday as the title suggests …..so we
have yet not shown the serious aspect of the film.
Importance
given to stuntmen-
Stunt men in the industry are given a
lot of credit .During the shoots we had called for an ambulance we had a co
ordination with a hospital .A doctor was there always on the sets.
Action in this film is very real kind
.It is not like I did in my earlier films,” Boss… There is no use of cabl
wires. If I have to take a summer Sault or kick it has to be real. It was not
done with the help of cable. Murugadoss wanted to show the stunts in real.
As a safety measure. Every hero has an
insurance which is done by the producer. I enjoy and try to do every stunt by
myself. There is no pressure from the producers end; they do not want their
heroes to meet with any accident.
On
doing different films-
I have to diversify myself all the time.
I have to trigger myself…Media is also looking at us like hawks’. if we are
repetitive they catch hold of us. They make you realize that we are doing the
same ole rut…. automatically any common mind will start working. Hence I do
different kind of films on par with production and acting as well. I just did a
film with Neeraj Pandey- another film is with a -Dog for entertainment films,
and this one is titled,” Holiday. So I need to keep on jumping doing films in
different genres. You will not find be doing the same old rut.I think every
actor has the hunger to do different kind of films.
On
films releasing back to back-
I cannot argue with my producers asking
them …. August is better for the release or so on. I keep myself aside by
giving them any comments on par with releasing dates. All my producers’ know
their job better, their study behind the releasing date etc is best known to
them, I can manipulate by troubling them, by saying…’dubbing hi nahi krta
ja.” but I do not like to use unfair means to pressurize them. I allow them to
do accordingly. If everything is ready it is up to them to release their films
thus. Hence all my films are releasing one after the other.

open to produce regional films from South!!
” I am already producing Marathi and
Punjabi films. However I have not produced Southern languages films...I believe
in diversity of subjects. Also if the content is good why should I not try it
out? Now a days the audiences need a change. They come to get entertained and
as producer I always like to choose films with great content.”
On zeroing the regional content he
adds,” I just hear the basic story and I can understand that the content will
allure the audiences on the whole. Thus I like to produce as well act in films
which are presented with difference, Look! my film ‘Holiday’ which is
being directed by Murugudoss will see me in a different role altogether.”

“Sex comedy films.” I am open to doing films from any genre. We should not see
or watch sex films as merely being vulgar. A film has to be watched as a
wholesome film.”
All praises for sex comedy films he
adds,” Grand Masti ,did so well at the box office. Audiences are open to watch
entertaining, content driven films and so there is nothing wrong in doing sex
comedy. Those who do not like sex comedy films should restrain from watching
these films. No one is forcing them to go ahead to the theaters.Keep away. It’s
all your choice dear.”
Spending quality rime with kids- Aarav
loves going on for Hiking. Every holiday I try to take him to a hilly area near
Thane in Mumbai for Hiking. Also he loves to play cricket and football.
Whenever I find some time from my hectic schedule I definitely play these games
with him. I am planning to take my family and kids for a Holiday’ to
America, Greece or Thailand ,however, I have yet to zero on the dates.Smilingly
he adds,” Twinkle is leading a happy family life looking after her lovely two
kids and has no intentions of joining films anymore.
