The Ghajini actor, who had relocated from London to Mumbai, was apparently depressed because of a career that was going nowhere and she also had relationship issues.
However, the fact remains that Jiah’s problems were not unique. Many stars and superstars have gone through lean patches and have battled depression. The trick, they say, is to have a support system, like one's family, to fall back on. A strong survival instinct also helps.
For example, one would have thought that actor Monica Bedi’s career was over given her jail sentence and her links with the underworld. She has, however, bounced back and today has her hands full with serials.
“I am thankful to God for giving me the strength to come through my testing times. It is also because of my parents that I have been able to leave the grey episodes of my life behind. It was their love, blessings and support which pulled me through,” says Monica.
“However, God was also aware of the fact that I am very innocent and that circumstances had got me in that rut. Not that I did not feel depressed and sad! But I would always pray and finally God heard my prayers.”
“The Bigg Boss entry was the beginning; this platform gave me reasons to exist. There was a time when I could not buy a house in a Mumbai suburb because people were scared to let me be a part of their society. I did feel depressed. We make mistakes but we should try to rectify it,” She adds.
“Ending this precious life is no solution at all. As human beings we should always try to tread on the right path. I was sure I would pass with flying colours because I knew I was a victim of situations and circumstances. I am currently doing the serial Sraswatichandra and I am enjoying it to the fullest.”
She adds, “Life is worth enjoying and we need to handle depressions and our shortcomings and not give into any such situations.”
Actor Ira Dubey, whose fledgling career has not exactly skyrocketed, says, “Belonging to the profession of ‘glitz and glamour’, we should be able to strike a balance. I personally never gave in to the uncertainty that prevails in this profession. I am a strong person and I know how to fight out testing times.”
“My mother (actor Lilette Dubey) inspires me. She has taught me to respect every person irrespective of where they may belong,” she adds. “I have started exploring my other potentials like singing, dubbing etc. when I do not have films. We as human beings should know how to vent our depressions and never give it a chair to sit on.”
“Also, being in the film industry one has to be ‘thick-skinned’, only then can one survive. Do not let your heart rule your mind… Enjoy this wonderful life bestowed upon you by almighty God.”
Reality star Rahul Mahajan, meanwhile had to fight demons of a different kind. He has, however, managed to put the brutal murder of his father behind.
