PRIYANKA SLAMS SENIOR TAG

Actress annoyed over being called a ‘senior actor’ and says Bollywood gossip can get malicious

I started working when I was just 17, so I have a lot of experience. But that doesn’t mean that I’m called a ‘senior actor’ just because I’m acting with Ranveer and Arjun
Priyanka Chopra is one of the most talented actresses in Bollywood. And even though she’s been around for over a decade now, she makes it very clear that she’s not a senior’ actor. In her latest flick Gunday, Priyanka is seen opposite actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Since both have done only a few films each, compared to PC’s vast body of work, and are a few years younger than her, people have been hinting at her seniority. Miffed at the chauvinistic attitude, PC points out, “No one asks 40 plus heroes why they are paired with young girls. I started working when I was just 17, so I have a lot of experience. But that doesn’t mean that I’m called a ‘senior actor’ just because I’m in a film with Ranveer and Arjun, who are in the same age group as me!”

Being one of the A-list stars, she is also subjected to gossip being written about her. PC says, “Gossip is a part of the film industry and no actor can escape being a target. But gossip is also malicious. I always wonder who the source of these rumours is. Don’t they realise that even we are someone’s sister, daughter and friend, and that such talk affects relationships?” So how does she deal with gossip about her? “I close my eyes and remain cool. I try not to think about gossip written about me. At first, I felt that I should clarify things by writing to the media. But then I decided not to do that. You never know, my replies could be used as a source for five more fictional stories!” she quips.
