I do not endorse marriage: Kangana Ranaut

DC | Lipika Varma | 02nd Jan 2014
Kangana Ranaut, who is waiting for the release of her next film, 'Queen', says that for a change she plays a simple girl in the Vikas Bahl film.
“I play a simple girl, Rani, who is not very confident. Though I play a behenji, Vikas did not want me to wear a salwar kameez in the beginning and then turn to wearing mini dresses. Rani is the same from the beginning to the end but a few incidents change her from within,” says Kangana.
“In real life, I am simple but very confident. I broke the rules of society and moved out of my house and travelled alone to Mumbai to make a career. However, in the initial stages I was slightly confused and didn’t know what exactly I was looking for and how to go about it.
“I did make some mistakes, but now everything has been sorted.”
Kangana, who does not want to join the current wave surrounding the Aam Aadmi Party, says that she tries to do whatever she can to bring about change in her own way. “If I get a chance to serve my country and bring about changes, I will surely put in my sincere efforts. But at my own personal level I always make it a point to close running taps and switch off fans and lights that are not being used. Also, I don’t like to unnecessarily waste money on laundry. I use my towel for almost 15 days. Extravagance is not permitted in my household.”
On a personal front she says, “I have been open about my affairs and my personal life because I do not like falsehoods. I do not like to hide things as I feel that truth prevails. I do not know why people like to cover up.”
Coming to marriage, the actor reiterates her earlier views about the institution. “I do not endorse this commitment at the moment. I feel two people can enjoy each other’s companionship without being married. I do not see a reason to get it endorsed by any government document… taking the charge of anybody’s soul and also take on their surname. I have seen people having so many issues after getting married and walking away from the commitment. I feel I can be trustworthy while being in a relationship and it doesn’t need to be legalised. To build up one’s trust we need not tie this nuptial knot.
Maybe I will change my mind later but that’s what I feel now.”
“Also if in a relationship someone cheats on me I won’t tolerate it. I am not promoting live-in relationships though,” she adds.

I don’t endorse marriage at all! Kangana

Kangana does not believe in the institution of marriage at the moment. Strange as it may sound, but the actress who was earlier in a tumultuous relationship with Aditya Panscholi followed by a whirlwind romance with Adhyayan Suman, says that she believes in being true about her relationships, but then does not look at it as a commitment.

Sounding clearly commitment phobic after a few experiences, she says: “I have been open about my affairs and myself because I do not like to put on a façade. I do not like to hide things from the people as I feel that truth does prevail. I do not know why people like to cover their love liaisons. I love to be myself because I feel comfortable just being myself.”

Query her about marriage and she takes a step backwards. “I don’t endorse this commitment at all at this juncture in my life. I feel that two people can also enjoy a companionship. But then being together as a companion, we should be true to the relationship we are in. I do not see a reason to get it endorsed by any government document; There is no point in taking charge of anybody’s soul and also possess their surname. I have also seen people have so many issues within a marriage and then so easily walking away from this commitment. I feel I can be sincerely trustworthy while being in a companionship. I feel that that no relationship needs to be legalized. It is maddening to do such things in this age and era. We a have so many other things to do. To build one’s trust we need not tie the nuptial knot. Maybe my state of mind will change latter but presently I have these notions in mind,” philosophises the actress.

Kangana feels that the last thing that she can tolerate from her partner is lack of sincerity in the relationship. “If in a relationship someone cheats me or proves to be insincere I will be the last person to tolerate it. I would definitely like to take my route on to my liking. I am not promoting live in relationships though! Being in a companionship it is necessary to be sincere wherever we are!! A secure relationship does not need any kind of a contract. I can never turn a blind eye to any nonsense… I would prefer walking out of such a relationship,” she says like a queen.

That brings us to her next film Queen. She has written the dialogues of the film as well. “The director Vikas Bahl was kind enough to accommodate me having my own dialogues in the film and give me credit for it as well,” says the actress who now encouraged by her own act is off to the US for a screenwriting course with the New York Film Academy. “Yes, I am leaving for the US soon. I do not rule out being a director as well,” says the actress who feels like a queen now.

“ Yes it is only during some fleeting moments do I feel like a   Queen. Also one cannot feel like a fool all the time. This character I play in the film is also like that. I am called Rani.”

She adds, “I play a simple girl who is not very confident about herself. Unquestionably I play a “Behenji”. The film is like the transformation of the underdog Rani who plays the hero of the film. But in real life I am simple but very confident .Therefore I broke the rules of the society and moved out of my house traveled alone to Mumbai when I decide to make a career for myself. However, during the initial stages of my career I was slightly confused and did know how to go about things. I could not choose on the kind of lifestyle I wanted to pursue? What exactly I was looking forward to? I did make some mistakes but now everything is sorted and now I know what I want! With innumerable good and bad experiences in life I have learnt a lot and obviously I can think with more clarity.”

Coming to politics Kangana is not endorsing the Aam Admi Party in Delhi. “Well! I do not know whether things this party has promised will be fulfilled. Whether things shaping up in the centre will happen in a positive note! But there has come in a vast change in this short period of time. The nation is looking for a positive change in terms of Education, Economic development, Employment etc especially in the rural areas. There is a wave of changes that has come to the fore from through AAP the party is trying to do the unconventional changes…they are claiming to fulfill the needs of the people that they are looking forward too. I believe sincerely that they should be given one chance to be able to do what they have promised the junta.”

Kangana knows not what efforts she might put up by herself while trying to bring in a good change for her country but she assures what best she can do at her own level.” Yeah! Definitely if I get a chance to serve my country and bring about some good changes I will surely put in my sincere efforts. What they will be can be decided while I literally get a chance. But presently at my own personal level I always make it a point to a] Close the running tap. b] Switch off the electricity and fan buttons when not in use. c] Also being educated try to educate my domestic help to not to let the running tap be open etc. d] Lastly, I do not like to unnecessarily waste money on Laundry. I use my “Towel” for almost fifteen days. Also while washing clothes do not want to waste water and soap unnecessarily. Extravagancy is not permitted in my household affairs,” says the girl knowing well, where to cut costs.

We want to tell her that she will make a great housewife too.

The veteran actor reveals the secrets about what has kept him young at heart By Lipika Varma/ Published Wednesday, January 01, 2014

The veteran actor reveals the secrets about what has kept him young at heart

Anil Kapoor is not only one of the finest Indian actors but is also fit and shows little signs of aging. This man from Koliwada has come a long way and spills the beans about his middle class background and his evergreen appeal.

“Yes, I belong to a middle class and I remember when no producers were ready to cast me in their films. But thanks to my stars and my sincere efforts that have borne fruits for me,” shares Anil.

Be it the ‘Nayak’, ‘Beta’ or going international with ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, he has time and again proven his critics wrong and wormed into the hearts of his audience. When he had turned producer for ‘Gandhi My Father’, a critically acclaimed film, he had humbly said, “I have put in all my experiences of being in this industry and tried to put a emotional as well as an intriguing tale. Hope you guys have liked it?”

Anil has also been very supportive to his daughter Sonam Kapoor’s acting aspirations. During the launch of the first look of her debut film, ‘Saawariya’, the anxious father had said, “Oh! Sonam, my daughter’s film is about to release. More than being nervous as a father I am very happy to watch her on the silver screen. It gives me immense pleasure to watch my daughter having performed so very exuberantly. Today it makes me feel Sonam has grown up. And I am all ready to give her away to the world, where she can fulfill her duties and make me proud, as well as all the other people who are involved in making her excel in the Bollywood.”

Like a good father he always opined that his kids need to make it up the hard way. In one of the interviews he shared about his son, Harshvardhan Kapoor and said, “I want him to pursue his choice whatever it may be. Be it acting, writing or direction. I am not the one who was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and so I want him also to come up the hard way, through the never ending learning process. I am not going to invest for him and give him everything on the platter. Rehea will surely turn a competitor to me as she plans on producing films.”

About having innovated on his look onscreen time and again, he shares, “All the films we have made, there was a conscious decision to be ahead of time. Hence, people can even watch those films today and get entertained. I’ve changed my look for so many films.” Sharing about how he did it differently in various films, he confessed, “‘Lamhe’, I removed my moustache, then ‘1942: A love story’ I cut my hair short, and changed the whole look. But in those times the media didn’t pay attention. During ‘1942: A love story‘, me and Vidhu Vinod Chopra decided, let’s call the media, I’m changing my whole look, but there was nobody apart from me and him, and now some actor just starts wearing an earring and media creates a hype.”

About the younger generation of actors following in his footsteps, he says, “I like it when people think someone has followed me, like while ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ released or ‘My Name is Khan’ released, people told me they were reminded of my role in ‘Eeshwar’, I felt good.”

About not getting bogged down by defeats, he opines, “Definitely, I am not the one who will sit down and feel defeated if any of my films may have not done well at the box office. I have innumerable ideas, which will go up one by one through Anil Kapoor Productions. My experiences have encouraged me to face every kind of challenges. I believe in working in good as well as odd circumstances.” Unaffected by hits and flops he adds, “Hits and flops is a part and parcel of our profession. I do feel bad while some of my films did not do well at the box office. As a producer my  films did not do well but then I always like to find out what may have went wrong. I always agree to the judgment of my audiences as I know they are the ones who have made me the actor that I am today.”

Anil opines his journey has just begun and shares, “I always feel I am starting afresh. Well! Success or no success, flops or hits, I am always ready to work harder and opt challenging ways to bring in a difference in whatever I chose to do.”

On his latest TV Serial ‘24’, he says, “I am happy with the response. People wave at me , while I visit cinema halls. They come up to me wishing to watch more of me. With all their praises, I feel I need to work harder to satisfy my audiences. This serial could be possible because of my director, my colleagues and the entire team. The power of television reach is magnanimously huge.”
Lastly, Anil also confirms that ‘Mr India 2’ will happen. Though, things are yet finalized. Ask him, if Sridevi would be there in the film? And he quips, “If Boney Kapoor produces the film, how will Sridevi not be there?”
