No ifs or butts for Kunal

“I have been a part of the theatre for a long time. My wife has accompanied me to various shoots.”
Much like John Abraham, Kunal Roy Kapoor's “assets“ had a brush with fame after ‘Delhi Belly’. But the actor assures us that there is no such scene in his upcoming flick ‘Nautanki Saala’ being directed by Rohan Sippy. Or in the one following that.
“I am not going to expose my butt in this film. There's this one scene where Ayushman Khurana applies some lotion on my backside, but that's it,” smiles Kunal adding that it wasn't the most comfortable scene to pull off.
“My wife was present on the film sets so it was not very easy, but then again, she's used to my antics since I have been a part of the theatre world for a long time now. She has accompanied me to various shoots and has witnessed similar moments so it wasn't all that bad,” adds Kunal.
Talking about his next film, the actor says, “’Kala Ghoda’ which earlier had John as part of the cast will hopefully go on the floors by June -without John who had to back out for some reason.”

The YRF war, and how Kajol survived

Even after two decades in the film industry, actor Kajol had always steered clear of controversies. That is, until the recent Diwali 2012 face-off between hubby Ajay Devgn's film Son of Sardar and best buddy Shah Rukh Khan's Yash Raj film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. In fact, a hitherto favourite of the YRF camp, Kajol was not even invited to the premiere of JHJ, which also happened to be the late Yash Chopra's swan song.
What does the star-turned-yummy mummy have to say about it? "Look, such controversies remain for one day and go away the next day. So I guess we need to take it in our stride," she says non chalantly.
How is her relationship with YRF now? "My relationship with YRF? You're asking me as though YRF is my boyfriend or something!" Kajol remarks in her inimitable style, adding, "Well, whatever happened is in the past now and we share a very cordial relationship. Whenever I meet them at an event or exclusive get-together we definitely exchange greetings. After all, we all belong to the film fraternity."
Having reinvented herself after being away from the world of glitz and glam our for a while, she shares, "I go to the gym regularly as well as go for walks. Thanks to Karan Johar, I have also realised the importance of staying touch with fashion."
Known for her exuberant performances, the actress shares, "In some scenes of mine, I see flashes of my aunt Nutan but not always. Many people have also told me that.“ Is she open to doing television shows? “Yes, if something alluring comes my way then I shall definitely take it up. But I am not open to reality shows, especially dance reality shows," she says.

Industry colleagues react on Sanjay Dutt’s jail term

The news comes as a shock! He is indeed a very nice person. Sanju is like a brother to my son Rahul; he is like family to us. We did not even dream that the verdict would go against him. More than my film ‘Policegiri’, I am bothered about Dutt’s wellbeing. If the sentencing does go to the revision bench, we as an industry will definitely back Sanjay.
Rumy Jafrey, writer/director:
I was with Sanjay Dutt last night while returning from Panvel. I am feeling really sorry for the verdict. He is a very soft-hearted guy. He is a great personality to reckon with. Having spent the night with him I could feel the pain and agony he was undergoing. I cannot express my view in words…I am really saddened with the verdict.
Soha Ali Khan, actress:
This is indeed an appalling piece of news! However, the law is everything. We are definitely feeling bad about Sanjay. Basically, he is a great human being. He is like my elder brother.

I am saddened, hurt and shocked to hear the news! I share a good rapport with him. He is a very kind human being and is always ready to help not only his actor friends but also the technicians and the spot boys on the sets. Bollywood in shock over Sanjay Dutt’s jail sentence

Dutt has already completed 18 months in jail, so he will have to serve three-and-a-half-years only

The Supreme Court awarded a five-year jail sentence to actor Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Bombay blasts case. However, Dutt has already completed 18 months in jail, so he will have to serve a three-and-a-half-year term only.

In July 2007, Dutt was pronounced guilty of having AK-47 rifle in possession and illegally possessing arms under India’s TADA [Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act].

The TADA court convicted 100 people; 11 of them were sentenced to death, another 20 given life terms. The actor was acquitted of serious charges under TADA. The country’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not challenged his acquittal.

Dutt is either currently working on a few films like ‘Policegiri’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Peekay’, ‘Sher’, ‘Hum Hain Rahi Car Ke’, ‘Munnabhai 3’ or some of them have to take off soon.

Sanjay Dutt said: "I have already suffered for 20 years and been in jail for 18 months. If they want me to suffer more I have to be strong. I am heart broken because today along with me, my three children and my wife and my family will undergo the punishment. I have always respected the judicial system and will continue to do so. I am going to complete all my films and won't let anyone down.

“I am overwhelmed by the support of my fans, the industry people, the media and all well wishers. They have always stood by me and supported me. I know in my heart that I have always been a good human being, I respect the system and have always been loyal to my country. My family is very emotional right now and I have to be strong for them. I am shattered and in emotional distress. I am sorry I can't come down and meet you all. God is great and he will guide me through this."

Following are some reactions of people in Bollywood to the court’s decision:

hurt you? Trying to avoid a straight answer, Abraham says, “I am happy
right now as I feel this is the best phase of my life. Also, I do not allow
any negative comments or events to affect me.
Abraham talks about his body, saying, “I have a well built body.” He
adds, “I have a great upper body and a strong pair of thighs and legs to
support it. The lines on my face are also attractive.”
But, the actor is not in favour of insuring his butt which won rave
reviews in ‘Dostana‘. “I would never insure any part of my body. I am of
the opinion that my body parte are not so precious ” Talking about
wearing comfortable clothing — he is mostly seen in a pair of jeans an a
tee instead of what’s fashionaly in ~ he says, “I love wearing a pair of
boxers. Usually I sit around close to my windows which are made of
glass. Boys from the colony point a pencil beam onto me. I just smile it
o f f . ”
“1 do have blinds, but I like the sunlight to flash all over my room during
the day. This makes me feel energetic and fresh.” Not many know that
Abraham is good at accounting. “Yeah! I do the accounting for my
yearly income. I keep the accounts of my banking on my tongue tips,”
he adds. “Undoubtedly, maths was my favourite subject and I am
planning to produce a film on mathematics. The number of affairs is not
so important as the numbers in calculations,” he adds, smiling.

Prankster Devgn spares Tamanna

Ajay Devgn, one of the most bankable stars of Bollywood, is the talk of town. The versatile actor who has transformed from an action hero into a comic action hero talks to DC ahead of the release of Himmatwala 2013, in which he stars opposite Tollywood actress Tamanna.
On Hyderabad
I have been to Hyderabad many times. This time, we were shooting inside the Ramoji Studios and, hence, did not get any time to gallivant around the beautiful city. I love the biryani. I am ecstatic that I have many fans here. It feels great when you go to a city and the crowd welcomes you with open arms.
On remakes of Southern films
I have been doing many remakes because these films have done very well all over the globe. I prefer doing films that entertain the audience and me, too. I will make a few more Southern remakes. However, Himmatwala is not a remake; there are few resemblances to the 1983 Himmatwala though. No one can simply remake the original.
On his best phase in B’wood
I am going through a good phase right now. But this is not new to me. When I debuted with Phool Aur Kaante, it was a stupendous hit. After that, I experienced a slack. But I kept working hard and now I am successful again. I feel hard work and luck go together. I always like to do different roles. I am doing Satyagraha now.

On sridevi’s comment
She is right in saying our Himmatwala is not a Mughal-e-Azam. I consider Phool Aur Kante as my Mughal-e-Azam. She too should consider her first film — Himmatwala — as her own Mughal-e-Azam.
On directors Rohit Shetty and Sajid Khan
Rohit thinks from the audiences’ point of view and Sajid thinks like the audience. While filming, he always sits in front of the monitor. If he doesn’t laugh while canning a comic scene, he calls for a retake.
On Tamanna
Tamanna is a good actress. She knows how to deliver the dialogues, is technically well-versed and knows to take the lights properly. Having worked in Tollywood, she has all the experience that one needs for doing a film. It was great working with her. This time, I did not play any pranks on her as Sajid was my favourite target

Sanaa Khan is happy about having met Salman Khan. But she wants to know if he will help her.

"Having spent 100 days in the Bigg Boss house, I was emotionally disturbed, but I must confess the stint has taught me a lot. We had to do a lot of house work, be friendly and yet look beautiful. But I did not enter the BB house to learn domestic chores.
I know how to sweep and swap. Truly speaking I loved to be in BB for I needed a platform to show my personality to Bollywood and hope that this will help me bag a ticket to Bollywood. I am happy to have met Salman. It will be too early to disclose if I will get any help from him in this regard.

However, everyone is aware of Salman's generosity. I did meet Salamn but nothing has been finalised yet. I can't talk about work unless I sign the dotted line. Yes I have been getting a lot of offers but I will take time to see what I should choose," she says.

She adds, "I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that Salman helps me bag a good role in any good Hindi film. I do not believe in posing double standards and so I unhesitatingly disclose the fact that BB has helped me take baby steps onto the Bollywood. People from the industry have recognized me and contacted me."

She says she has learnt a lot of patience and how to judge people better.

She says she is happy to have got the Bigg Boss platform. "Any platform helps. I am getting a lot of offers but it's the testing time now. I have to know what I should choose and what I shouldn't."

She says she harbours no resentment. "I do not regret anything I have done in the house. I regret doing the good things with wrong people.
The whole world has seen that many people have spoken about me and have not taken sides when I was good to them."

Being impatient during her teens she adds, "I don't remember anything in particular. In your teens you are impatient you want things to happen immediately you wonder why things are not happening immediately. But today I have realized that things happen at the right time."

Coming back to discussing her early days she quips, "I started from Mumbai. I did a lot of ads here and because of Amul I got South Films and now because of Bigg Boss as better platform. I am getting work here. I am from Andheri. I finished schooling in Cannosa Convent."

Not being a trained actor she says, "I have not done any acting course. I have worked with best of the brands, best of the actors and I learnt working through my ads. I have been working for the last six years. I am feeling good now."

"Initially my family was not open to my joining the industry. When I started working they realized that I am doing good work. Now they are adjusting. Mom was the only one who supported me. They are not open to certain things but they know this is my profession."

Asked if she'd be careful of not doing steamy scenes she says, "I can't have limitations as an actor. I never say never but that is the first thing I do. I take decisions through moments. Whether I am ready for it or not. Let me figure what work demands from me."

On being a southern siren she says, "I would love to do south films as well as Bollywood films."

For her fans she says, "My female fan base has increased through Bigg Boss."

On realizing her beauty "I feel every single girl is beautiful it is how you project yourself. Through my work I realized I am looking good on screen."

Refusing to disclose anything about her love life she says, "My first love was when I was attending National College at Bandra. I am single at the moment."

Her next film is in Malayalam and is releasing. Named 'Climax' it is based on Silk Smitha's life. "It's not a dirty picture. It's a real life story. It's being directed by Anil."

Bollywood goes 'global with Pakistani, Lankan, Bangladeshi artists

Bollywood’s star power has lured many Pakistani artists to give up their flourishing career in Pakistan and move base to India.

Over the years Mumbai film industry saw many aspiring actors come from different corners of India to get a foot-hold in Bollywood.

Times have changed and now, not only Indians but many other nationalities throng Bollywood to shine on the silver screen.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has been instrumental in recruiting many of these Pakistani artists.

“I find no harm in giving a chance to those who are talented. They could be from anywhere on the globe. How many Pakistani persons participate in our films? There was one Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ali Zafar and now it is Sara who is a Dubai resident.

"I am sure they are a handful only. Have we not given a chance to Jacqueline Fernandez who belongs to Sri Lanka and we had also given a chance to James who was from Bangladesh?”

Bhatt goes on to ask, “Should we encourage the controversial state of affairs that have occurred in the past like bombings on bus tops or trains? We belong to the film fraternity. In fact love and normalcy needs to prevail against all odds. Yes! We have recognized talent from all over the globe. I see no reason to believe that if we share a morsel with our neighbouring country we deprive Indian talent.

"Indian talent is always there and has proved itself time and again. Everyone in general has the right to work but the political infringement creates debate able situation. In general people do not care for this at all. Exchanging talent culturally brings greater satisfaction.

"According to me Mahatma Ghandhi also liked to share a cordial relationship with the Pakistanis and for me no one is greater patriot than him.”

Coming to his choice of film making he says, “I always chose to go for with the real stories while filmmaking. I remember when I made a film like ‘Awarapan’ people did not appreciate it initially. Also when I started introducing music to a greater extent it was a matter of discussion in the fraternity. But our films garner appreciation along with the music. Music is the backbone of our films.”

Coming to ‘Murder3’ he says, “‘Murder’ is the major departure. The treatment in ‘Murder 3’ is bold but it is being put forth with a pinch of emotions. Women have always taken the centre stage in my films.”

Adding about acceptance of homosexuality he says, “People criticized ‘Tamanna’ although it was a critically acclaimed film. How many years it took for our society to accept homosexuality? Earlier it was considered taboo and a crime. Finally people have realized that such guys too are the natural creations of God and they should be allowed to live openly.”

Commenting on his social work he says, “Just for your reference with the help of Iqbal Hyder Saab I acquitted about 432 fishermen folk from Pakistan and am involved in doing many other socially relevant things from time to time.”

“On the whole I make films to give something to the industry. Then it doesn’t matter who I give a chance to. Someone from here or someone form another country.”

The filmmaker was all praises for his heroines in ‘Murder 3’ Mahesh Bhatt says, “Aditi (Rao Hyadri) has an aura of self pride. We see the emotions oozing out of her persona. She is really very keen on giving her best. She has made her own identity. Also has the capability of assembling her talent in a new way.”

He goes on to add about Sara Lore, “Unfortunately ‘Kajrare’ could not be released but Sara has the experience of having shot for 60 to 70 days. She is talented also is an assimilation of a wonderful persona.”

Bipasha Basu - the horror queen of Bollywood

There was 'Raaz', 'Raaz 3' and now 'Atmaa'. It looks like Bipasha Bapu has a special genre after all: the horror one. "I think with 'Atmaa' I have developed a special love for horror films. I guess we as actors start liking the genre we start doing."
Having done many bold characters Bips says it was not a planned journey.
"In fact I did not even plan acting. Whatever I have done in my short span of life I think I have just managed by following my gut. I became an actor by chance. I have had an amazing journey with all the highs and lows of my filmy as well as my personal career.
"All my experience has taken me towards being a better actor as well as a better human being. In true terms I have evolved hell of a lot."
She says there's a dearth of good roles for women in the industry.
"In Hollywood roles are specifically written for their heroines but here even if it is a contemporary 100 crs film of Vidya I feel they are not written well. I see so many women above 40 attending the Oscars. If the Golden Globe has space for women above 40, we here can do much more.”
Refreshing her earlier days she adds, "I remember when I newly entered the Bollywood horizon I was not allowed to disclose my relationship with my boyfriend. This is ridiculous. Also married heroines in the seventies were seen with disregard. Now they too find acceptance. We do not get good roles to showcase our talent. Being in the industry for more than 12 years I have looked pretty and have done it all.”
Not blaming the society she says, "While films are made based on reality I do not agree that films bring in much of a change in the society."
Talking further about a man woman relationship she says one does not need to carry forward a dysfunctional kind of a relationship. "Even women need to go in for a change rather carrying on with an abusive relationship.”
Sharing her experience working with director Suparn Gosh she says, "It was really fun watching him enact like Bipasha…we would burst out laughing but he would continue behaving like me. He is a chilled out director. I would keep troubling him by saying what instrument will scare me now…and he would go on saying…I have yet to decide whether it is a knife or an axe…..also working with this little girl was like knowing the behaviour of kids. She would have the guts to ask the director when we will pack up …also she would just say I am sleepy and go away to sleep…I would have to wait for her. Kids are really so cute they simply tell what they have in mind. I bonded with her the most. As she would eat with me and keep hanging with me all the time."
Lastly all praises for Nawaz she says, "He is a methodical actor while I work spontaneously. But both have the same sense of enacting scene. For us the first three takes would be it. It was really great to work with him. Undoubtedly he is a brilliant actor. I and Suparna would keep foiling all the time and this poor guy just smiled and kept looking at us…enjoying our gimmicks!!” concludes Bipasha.
